More About Coach Chase
My coaching is built on a career spanning competitive youth, collegiate and the professional game — four years as a high-level Division I starter at Cal Poly, three years as a USL Championship pro inside three different MLS affiliate development systems (San Jose, Real Salt Lake, Sporting KC), and ongoing full-time work in youth player development. I’ve seen, from the inside, exactly which technical habits hold up at the next level and which ones get exposed the second a player steps up.
I run private and small-group technical sessions for players roughly ages 13+ — most commonly rec-plus kids trying to make club, club kids targeting ECNL or MLS Next, high schoolers chasing college rosters and lastly, any professional aspirants. The focus is always on on-ball fundamentals combined with in-moment decision making.
I’m also the founder of Tekkers (app.tekkers.io), an AI-driven player development platform. Building it keeps me deep in the current research on motor learning, deliberate practice, and skill acquisition — and that work directly shapes how I structure sessions, sequence reps, and deliver feedback.
I played four seasons at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo (2012–2015), finishing as the program’s all-time co-leader in assists (21) with 16 goals across 77 appearances. I was named Big West Conference Midfielder of the Year in 2014 and again in 2015 — only the second player in conference history to win the award in back-to-back seasons — earned All-Big West First Team honors both years, NSCAA All-Far West Region First Team in 2014, and a spot on the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List in 2015 (top 30 collegiate players in the country). Off the field, I was twice named Cal Poly’s Big West Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year and a Senior CLASS Award Second-Team selection.
In January 2016, the Columbus Crew selected me 21st overall in the MLS SuperDraft — the highest draft slot for a Cal Poly player in program history. From there I played three professional seasons in the USL Championship with Sacramento Republic FC, Tulsa Roughnecks FC (on loan), Real Monarchs SLC, and Swope Park Rangers (the reserve sides of San Jose, Real Salt Lake, and Sporting KC). The standout year was 2017 with Real Monarchs, when we won the USL Regular Season Championship with the best record in the league, and I was part of the Real Salt Lake group around the first-team friendly vs. Manchester United that July.
Before college, I won a U-16 USYSA National Title with the Dallas Texans in 2009 and was ranked among the top youth prospects in Texas coming out of Rockwall-Heath High School.
Every session opens with a quick conversation about what we're looking to accomplish and a 5-minute dynamic warm-up. From there we move into a single focused technical block — striking, first touch, passing, or 1v1 dribbling etc. — built around progressive reps with immediate, specific feedback on plant foot, body shape, contact surface, and execution speed. Reps are tracked and counted, not guessed at.
Midway through, we layer in pressure: a defender, a time constraint, a scoring condition, a forced direction. The technique has to survive contact with a real decision, otherwise it doesn’t survive a real match. We finish with a small-sided or game-realistic application — striking under a keeper, passing under press, 1v1 to goal — then a two-minute debrief covering what we drilled, what got measurably better, and exactly what to repeat at home before our next session.
Players leave knowing what they did, why it mattered, and what to work on. Parents get a quick rundown of where their kid is improving and where the next ceiling is.
