More About Coach Charles

I've been a Performance (S&C) Coach for 10+ years now. I have worked in the private sector, NCAA Div-1, and professionally. The first place I worked at was Oregon State University with the football and baseball teams, then moved down to Phoenix to work at a private facility called EXOS where we trained mostly MLB and NFL athletes in their off-seasons. From there I move back up to Oregon to Work for the Portland Timbers. I have currently been with the Organization for 9-seasons. I am a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and personal trainer through the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), US Olympic Weight Lifting Performance Coach, and hold my USA Soccer D Level Coaching Licence.

Growing up I was a competitive snowboarder, my main events were Slopestyle and Boardercross. I also played competitive Ice Hockey at the Junior Level. I grew up playing many sports, such as Soccer, Taekwondo, Baseball, Basketball, Tennis, Golf, Volleyball, BMX, Badminton, Pickleball, and Ultimate Frisbee.

I truly love playing sports and training to be a better athlete for sports.

I love to coach Sprinting (Speed) and Multi- Directional (Agility) training along with olympic and powerlifting. I'm also able to work with players on technical and tactical portions of team sports, Especially Soccer and Hockey.
I deal with a lot of end stage physical rehabilitation as well. I can be of great service to those in need of physical training for re-entry into sport or physical activity.

Example Speed Session:
Body Preparation Drills x 5min (ex. Planking, Glute Bridging, mostly hip and core prep)
Dynamic Warm-Up x 10-15min (Preparing the body for the demands of the training session)
Intro to Speed x10-15min (Technical Work, Postural Drills)
Sprints x 2-4reps with 3-5min of active rest
Cool Down
Total Time 50-60min

Coach Charles is outstanding! He helped get my son back up and running after a hamstring injury. He's very knowledgeable, motivating and has improved my son's strength and speed for the field.

Although Coach Charles mostly works with professional athletes, he is able to condense key concepts and training principles in a way that is understandable to younger athletes. My son has enjoyed working with him and looks forward to every training session. The primary focus is on strength and conditioning, but he does plenty of work with the soccer ball as well. We also like that Coach Charles has concrete measures of improvement that he is tracking with our son.

I have never been too excited about working out, and quite honestly, used to dread it. But, when I found Charles, I began to see working out in a whole new light. Chuck has a great understanding of each individual’s goals, limitations and expectations in a workout. He brings patience and understanding, with guidance and encouragement, that nudge I need to keep going. Chuck has a skill of making you comfortably uncomfortable and trying exercises you would’ve never thought you could do. From pushing a weighted sled, to pull ups, or Turkish get-ups, OK I actually CAN do those! Anyone can tell you to move some weights around, run on a tread mill or do some crunches. Chuck does much more than that, his EXOS training and certifications enable him to guide you through each training session with explanations of muscles benefiting, and how to perform the exercises safely. Each workout is different and inclusive of each muscle group, a total body workout. The expertise and knowledge he has about training could motivate, and does motivate, people of all ages, sizes and skill levels. My mindset about working out has come a long way, from dreading and avoiding workouts, to finding myself scheduling my days and weeks around when I can get back to training with Chuck. And for this Chuck, I thank you!
My personal training sessions with coach Chuck are extremely interesting and challenging. Very innovative, thoughtful and understanding of the needs we have individually and taking the time to ask questions and if necessary fine tune exercises to fit me or others. Always punctual, always smiling and extremely professional, I am grateful that I get to train with him.

No matter if you’re traveling from Motel 6 to Motel 6 in the United Soccer League or on charter flights around Europe this guy is as good as they come. In addition to being one of the smartest minds on the planet he’s as good a person as he is a trainer, if not better.
