More About Coach Cayla
With over 16 years of coaching experience, I bring a dynamic, athlete-centered approach to player development. My journey has spanned across recreational leagues, competitive club programs, and seven years within the Adams 12 high school system. I’ve had the privilege of working with athletes as young as 7 and guiding them through to their senior year, adapting my coaching strategies to meet the developmental needs of each age group.
In addition to volleyball, I have coached youth soccer, broadening my perspective on athlete motivation, movement, and engagement across sports. I hold certifications in Abuse Awareness, CPR/AED/First Aid, Concussion Training, Refereeing, and multiple coaching credentials, underscoring my commitment to athlete safety, integrity, and continuous learning.
My focus is on creating inclusive, structured, and inspiring environments where athletes can thrive on and off the court.
My journey as a coach is rooted in personal experience. Growing up, I competed in volleyball, soccer, basketball, and track & field, developing a deep appreciation for the benefits of cross-training. This multi-sport background has shaped the way I approach athlete development: emphasizing movement literacy, injury prevention, and mental agility across all stages of growth.
Volleyball has been my constant. I’ve played volleyball through school, club, and adult leagues, continuing to fuel the same passion I now instill in the athletes I coach. That continuity helps me relate to players at every level and to meet them not just where they are, but where they’re going.
Individualized Goal Tracking & Athlete-Centered Sessions!
Each of my athletes receives a personalized goal sheet that outlines their short- and long-term objectives, notes what we've worked on, what they've accomplished, and includes at-home focus areas between sessions. This tool helps keep things transparent and keeps athletes, parents, and myself aligned on progress and priorities, while building a shared sense of accountability and support.
Open communication and buy-in from everyone involved allow athletes to stay focused and feel empowered. Early on, I gather insight into how each athlete learns best! Whether through verbal cues, visual demonstrations, or physical repetition and whether they thrive with one focus at a time or can manage multiple goals. This helps shape each session for maximum impact.
We begin every lesson with dynamic stretching and a check-in based on their goal sheet. Making adjustments if needed to reflect how they’re feeling that day. The session then progresses through targeted skill-building in a structured, layered approach. We emphasize high-quality reps and in-the-moment coaching, always honoring the learning style they’ve communicated to me.
My goal is not only to help athletes reach their next milestone but to give them ownership of their journey and confidence in the process. I like to give high praise and push in areas that are needed. Build confidence is the bigger picture. Once the athlete(s) have established confidence, the risk taking and skill comes quickly.
