More About Coach Cate

I have 10 years of experience coaching high school girls soccer. I have been a head coach for both Freshman and JV teams, while also assisting with Varsity. I have 10 years of experience training goalkeepers across all levels. I have coached at Buena High school here in Ventura, also at San Dieguito High School in San Diego, Natomas High School in Sacramento and Hughson High School in Hughson. I usually work with ages 10 to 18, but willing to make exceptions for under 10, depending on the needs of the family. Certifications I have include: CPR/First Aid and an array of classes taken through NFHS. Classes include: Fundamentals of Coaching, Heat Illness Prevention, Concussion in Sports and Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

After graduating high school in 2008 from Buena High School, I attended UC Davis where I competitively competed with the UC Davis Women’s Club Soccer Program from 2008 to 2012. During summer and winter breaks, I would come back to Ventura to run goalkeeper camps for Buena players. While playing at UC Davis, our team earned Regional runner-ups two years in a row. From 2016 to 2018, I attended Sacramento State for my Masters Degree, while continuing to coach and help smaller high schools build up their girls soccer programs. Throughout my education, I have been so fortunate to have the opportunities to continue being a coach and working with female athletes. As a coach, I have worked with dozen of goalkeepers over the years, who have gone on to earn an array of awards from All League First Team, Second Team, Most Improved and Honorable Mention.

During my training sessions, we initially start off with basics to assess a player’s overall needs. This involves warm-up drills, assessing hand/eye coordination and running through some keeper specific movements (i.e. diving, jumping, personal protection and player organization.) I will also speak directly with the family to assess there goals. If available, I review game footage of players to gain other helpful insights. Once certain areas and goals are identified and agreed upon by the player, then a training plan would be created. A typical 60 minute session usually includes a warm up (5-10), review of last session (5), focus on one specific need (20/25), game play application (10), then cool down (5). Specific focuses vary from player to player, but can include penalty kicks, drop kicks, set piece defense, breakaways, leadership skills, soccer IQ, etc.
