More About Coach Carolyn

Hi players and parents- my name is Carolyn! Soccer has brought me my closest friends and best memories, and I'm so excited to work with players ages 6-13 who are interested in improving their soccer skills! I currently coach elementary and middle school aged players- and have previous experience with coaching a Division I-level club competitive soccer team in Washington, DC. I enjoy offering individual-level input and pointers to help the players improve and develop a love for the game. As a coach, my approach consists of planning out a sequence of drills to allow the athletes to practice a skill and gain repetitions, while pointing out how the skill(s) applies in a real-game scenario. I strive to make the drills challenging, yet engaging and fun.

Growing up, I played at a competitive level throughout middle and high school, and achieved all-league recognition my junior year. In college, I played competitive club soccer at the Division I level, and travelled around the northeast region to play other schools. I was an elected captain my sophomore through senior years and was responsible for helping to develop and run practice drills, as well as creating conditioning workouts and motivating the team. After graduating, I assisted with coaching the team- as I still lived in the area- which is where my passion for coaching began.

Prior to meeting for the session, I would like to get a sense of what aspects to focus on, and what the athlete would like to work on so that I can plan and tailor the exercises and drills. Before the session, I will communicate with the player or parent to talk about goals and develop a plan.
Generally, a session would be structured like this:
Warm up: To reduce injuries, I begin each session with a dynamic warm up, followed by injury prevention exercises (such as PEP prevention program for preventing ACL injury).
Technical drills: The bulk of the session will be spent working through drills and games tailored to aspects in which the player would like to work on, whether that is dribbling, first touch, passing, off-ball movement, trapping, etc.
Game application drill: After working through the technical drills, the session will end with a drill that applies the skills learned to in-game scenario. This activity will be tied to the position of the athlete (if they have one).
Cool-down: The session will end with an active cool down. I will provide feedback and training assignments for the player to work on in between sessions based on my observations from the session!

Client Reviews

Coach Carolyn is amazing! I brought my 13 year old son for a refresh in soccer before his tryouts. She was patient and thourough! Looking forward to bringing him for more sessions

Coach C has been a wonderful influence on my daughter, demonstrating patience and kindness. She skillfully balances nurturing support with the push to improve, encouraging my daughter to work hard. Emily focuses on developing strong technical skills, ensuring that every session is educational and fun. Her commitment to running drills has significantly enhanced my daughter's endurance, skills, and confidence.

My ten year old daughter loves training with Coach Carolyn. Carolyn is very communicative and comes to every session with a clear plan and she shares notes with the us about each session. Most practices start with warmups to prevent injuries and then moving progressively through dynamic drills to improve footwork, speed and agility. Carolyn is very creative and keeps the lessons engaging by participating in the drills, modeling the exercise, and passing the ball back and forth. My daughter especially looks forward to the 1v1 play and game-like scenarios that Carolyn incorporates toward the end of practice before cool-down. After the last session my daughter said that the thing she appreciates most about working with Carolyn is that Carolyn has helped her improve her tactical awareness of how one action should connect with the intention or strategy of the next. Honestly, we couldn't be happier; Carolyn is responsive, punctual, thoughtful, reliable, and extremely kind and encouraging.

We found Coach Carolyn on My CoachUp after my 7-year-old daughter became hesitant to go after the ball following an incident on the field. Carolyn was incredibly patient, easy to work with, and made an immediate connection with Ellie during their first session. She explained techniques, designed drills to improve Ellie’s agility, and incorporated game-like situations to build confidence. We saw noticeable improvement right away. If you’re looking for a youth soccer coach in the Bay Area, we highly recommend Carolyn!

Coach Carolyn was really great!!! We highly recommend her. In just a few sessions, my daughter improved so much-she is punctual and a great communicator. Very happy to have worked with her.
