More About Coach Carl

Hello, my name is Carl Harvey and I have experience coaching baseball and softball at many different levels. I have volunteered and coached with high school baseball and softball teams, as well as travel baseball teams ages ranging from 8 to 18. I have also coached private lessons with the same age range. I have the ability to work with younger children who want to learn the game and the fundamentals, as well as high schoolers who are more serious and competitive and want to hone in their skills.

My athletic achievements are wide spread. I have competed and won the hit run and throw competition at the regional level. Also I was a 3 year starter at the Babe Ruth level and a four year varsity letterman and starter at the high school level. I played collegiate baseball at the Count College of Morris and the University of Alabama. In high school I won the team MVP award as well as athlete of the month and hold records for least amount of strike outs in a season as well as most runs batted in in a season. In college I got my first collegiate win as a pitcher at a tournament in Myrtle Beach South Carolina at the Cal Ripken baseball complex. In high school I threw two 1 hitters to beat our two rivals one of which is a catholic school powerhouse. Also in American Legion I threw a 1 hitter to win the North Jersey Regional Championship. All in all I have had a successful baseball career and have always loved teaching the game.

In one of my sessions I could help you or your child improve pitching velocity and accuracy, as well as improve bat speed, bat to ball contact, power, and swing. Also I can improve fundamentals on throwing and fielding for any of the 9 positions on the field. For pitching, I would focus on arm angle, stride, and wind up through simple fundamentals and video showing your child what they are doing correctly and what they could improve on. The same goes for fielding, throwing, and hitting. By taking a video it allows the player to visually see what they are doing instantly. For hitting lessons I would show them how to focus on their hip action and pivot foot by doing tee work as well as mock swings. We would also work on shortening the swing to reduce the amount of area the bat has to cover to the point of contact with the ball.
