More About Coach Carl

I have been coaching for 10 years and playing for 27 years. I have had the privilege of coaching players from all around the world, of different ages and levels at various clubs in four different countries. Most notably traveled around the European Circuit with the Bryan Brothers as their sparring partner.

I began my tennis career at the ripe age of 3 and competed in USTA tournaments all over southern California until the age of 18! Along the way my competing continued through and with my Middle School and High School Varsity teams at Coronado. As a Junior our High School team made the CIF Finals where only my partner and I were able to win every match throughout the CIF Playoffs. As a Senior I attended the Weil Tennis Academy and continued with Open Tournament Competition. I played #1 at San Diego Community College for one year while I began coaching as an Assistant for the Hilltop High School Team. Then I moved to Europe and taught in Toulouse, Florence, and Madrid while finishing my degree in Business Administration online with National University.

First I would need a personal evaluation as to how long they have played and what their overall goals are. Then in a first time session a client can expect me to help them with anything and everything that goes into a simple casual hit with friends to how to prepare for playing a match on tour. To teach, I use several different feeding techniques; from drop feeds (creates complete isolation for specific detailed stroke work or footwork techniques) to classic basket feeding (standard with drills) and up to rallying, (for more advanced players). Ultimately I'm here to help you get better and improve in every way possible, even by making you quicker! Yes quicker, by becoming more efficient, working your whole game from court positioning to court movement and stroke structure. At the end of a practice I finish with a brief evaluation of where I feel the student has done well and where i feel they have the most room to improve.
