I played four years of college baseball at Harris-Stowe State and Central Methodist University. I played 4 years of high school baseball at Boonville High School.
I am looking to work with athletes who have a BURNING desire to take their game to the next level. I do not care if that goal is high school, college, or professional. I want to work with the guys who have that kind of ambition. My lessons will not be a "one size fits all" approach. Nor are they for those who want to show up one hour a week, and expect dramatic results. I am looking for the guys who want to work together with me to create a plan that will give them the results they are looking for. I am looking to work with the guys that are going to put the time and effort into the plan at home.
I am very interested in working with any position, hitting, and/or pitching. Anyone who wants to work with me on pitching will have to complete an honest pain assessment related to throwing.
I will begin every lesson with a wake-up/warm-up routine. The body cannot possibly recruit what isn't awake, so I will work with the athlete to wake up the body to get it ready to work most efficiently.
The next phase of the lesson will be an analysis phase. It does not matter where one begins, it is where they finish. In order to truly improve, one must be honest with themselves and find out where they are. I will use video and I will objectively measure those who come to me to give them the information they need to improve. A big focus I place on my students is hitting power and throwing velocity. A lot of instructors will shy away from things like this, but I WANT guys who want to learn to hit and throw harder. As sessions go, we will work on things such as approach to hitting, pitching philosophy, etc. However, I like to put a lot of focus on arm strength and velocity, as they are big difference makers in advancing one's career. I also feel that making young players aware of improving these areas pays HUGE dividends in their careers.
We will improve not only with drills, but using the concept of "blending". Blending will increase the rate of results by taking drills and adding them to the full motion (whether that is a swing, throw, etc.). We will then work together to create the right "master blend" for that athlete until it is time to move onto another.
When our session is over, I will want to follow up with a plan until I see the athlete for our next session. This will be very individualized because of several factors (space at home, access to facility, etc.)
Note: I cannot work individually with students in high school from the summer between their 8th grade year until they graduate high school.
