My practices are hard core- you have to work hard to achieve greatness in this sport! The three pillars of tumbling/stunting/jumping are strength, flexibility and technique
Min. Practice 5-6 days a week 2 hour practices
1. When you walk into a typical practice of mine you start stretching right away! I usually give about 15 minutes of stretching time. Sometimes, I will do a group stretch will everyone stretches together so I know every cheerleader is stretched properly- other times I will give them 15 min to stretch out themselves however they choose.
2. Running- conditioning 1 mile around gym
3. Motion Drills - VERY IMPORTANT - I line the squad up and call out motions and I will observe and critique "broken" arms and wrists
4. Jumps- working especially on toe touches
5. Tumbling- Starting with standing tumbling such as back handsprings and standing back tucks- from there moving on to tumbling passes
6. Stunts- From the very first practice I will find out exactly how advanced they are in stunting. We may have to start at the very basics- Safety is priority!
7. End of practice- More Conditioning!
8. Routines- such as side line cheers for football/basketball, hello cheer for half time shows, or competition routine
All of my practices usually go in this order - When I meet a squad for the first time I come in and evaluate and determine what their strengths and weakness are- see where they need the most work.
I may not need to spend so much time on their jumps, but their motions may need a lot critiquing.. etc
