More About Coach Brandon
Since 2014, I have been honing my skills as a soccer coach with US Soccer Prospects, specializing in technical development. My coaching journey spans from working with young children in 3v3 recreational leagues to guiding 19u boys and girls teams, including high school athletes. I have a robust background in both private and team coaching settings across various age groups, with a predominant focus on players aged 5-12, in addition to four years dedicated to teenage players.I am deeply committed to developing the foundational skills and tactical understanding essential for soccer at all levels of play. Holding a U.S. Soccer D license, I bring a structured approach to coaching, aiming to elevate each player’s game through personalized and group training regimens.
My soccer journey includes playing for elite youth clubs such as Texas Rush and Houston Dynamo Youth, and competing at the high school varsity level. These experiences have equipped me with a profound understanding of the game’s demands and intricacies, enhancing my ability to coach and develop young talent effectively.
When planning a session, I tailor the activities based on the players' age, skill level, and the number of participants. I avoid overloading sessions with too many activities, maintaining focus on the core topic. After each session, I reflect on the effectiveness of the activities by asking:
Was the activity appropriately challenging for the players' capabilities?
Did the session run smoothly?
What did the players learn?
In preparing training sessions, I always consider the modified rules applicable to each age group and enforce these during match play. Planning also involves anticipating the number of players; flexibility is crucial since attendance can vary. For example, if a drill is designed for eight players (like a 4v4 game), but sixteen players attend, I would set up two grids to accommodate everyone. This approach allows the same activity to run simultaneously, enabling me to coach effectively across both groups. Each session is centered around a specific topic, which could be related to any of the four components of soccer:
Fitness
Psychology
Tactics
Technique
For younger players, I ensure the sessions are engaging and fun, suited to their shorter attention spans. This might involve creative games and exercises. With older children, while still incorporating fun elements, I place a greater emphasis on skill development and tactical drills to reinforce learning. A typical session includes a warm-up, a basic drill, progressive stages of that drill, and concludes with a game that applies what they've practiced.

Brandon is awesome! He showed our granddaughter the fundamentals of soccer. She learned a lot. We are stopping soccer, but we plan to return in the fall. We would consider getting Brandon as a private coach if our schedules fit. His knowledge and techniques are impressive.
