More About Coach Brandon
I've been coaching basketball for 10 years, and training for 5 years. I've coached at the middle school, and high school level in both New York City and Long Island, NY. I typically work with ages from 5-18, and have recently begun working with college athletes. I am a head coach for the NX Generation AAU program. I also worked as a trainer at Jerry Powell's Basketball Results training facility in North Babylon, NY. In the past, I have coached at St. Mary's high school as an Assistant Varsity Coach under Coach Billy Harkins for two seasons. Currently I am the Head Coach of both the Varsity and Junior varsity boy's basketball team at Ramaz Upper School in New York City.
Beginning in high school, I was a three year varsity basketball starter at Salesian high school in New Rochelle, NY and am currently #7 all time in scoring in school history. I played junior college basketball at Nassau Community College for two years and earned pre-season All American honors. After Nassau, I transferred to C.W. Post in Long Island, NY and played two years of college basketball, and was one of the top scorers in the conference. Then after college, I played professionally in Chile for three months. Since then, I've played on several semi-pro teams in the New York state area.
It depends on the clients background and skill level, but I typically focus on strengthening weaknesses, and improving strengths. To begin a session, I will have the client complete a shooting warmup, or ball handling exercises and continue to challenge the client as the session progresses. I use medicine balls for ball handling drills in order to improve strength in both arms, and help coordination. I also focus on individual moves, as well as counter moves that will help clients be a more efficient threat on offense. I also incorporate agility drills throughout the training session, that improves the clients footwork. In shooting drills, I focus on the importance of proper form consistency. Throughout training sessions, I also will focus on confidence building as well as teaching clients to be comfortable in uncomfortable high pressure game situations. Each training session depends on the client, but these are a few highlights of individual skill building that I focus on.
