More About Coach Bobby

In total, I have 15 years of coaching experience along with over 30 years of athletic playing experience. From 1998-2002, I discovered my passion for training and coaching, primarily the youth of the local community through my work at the East Providence Recreation Center. I enrolled at Rhode Island College to pursue an education degree and volunteered with the East Providence High School baseball and wrestling teams. In 2005, I officially began coaching middle school wrestling in which I currently serve as the Martin Middle School Head Wrestling Coach. A year later, I took on the role of Riverside Middle School Head Softball Coach, a position I had to unfortunately sacrifice after six years to pursue my childhood dream of becoming Head Varsity Baseball Coach at East Providence High School. In 2008, I was fortunate enough to develop and pursue my very own training facility known as "ATC (Athletes Turn Champion)" in which my staff and I train individuals of any age in various sports, such as baseball, softball, and wrestling along with other sport specific training. Through this training facility, I was able to establish a wrestling club that encompasses elementary, middle and high school aged athletes who travel throughout New England for competitive matches. While most New Englanders are at the beach during the summer months, I coach at football camps to assist with weight training and condition program as well as baseball camps to assist with baseball skills, drills and instruction. Along with my coaching experience, in 1999 I joined the East Providence Marlins, an independent amateur baseball league in which I presently serve as the general manager and head coach. I feel as though my own personal athletic experiences provide me with a rare perspective that has allowed me to evolve into an inspiring coach.

As a high school athlete, I participated in the East Providence High School football, wrestling and baseball teams. My athletic accomplishments during my high school years include: Academic All-State for wrestling, All-Division for baseball, Donat Maynard Award for best overall player on the baseball team as well as served as team captain for baseball. I served as a collegiate baseball player at both the Community College of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College. Additionally, from 1999 until present day, I have been a player for the Independent Amateur Baseball League, specifically the East Providence Marlins, in which I currently serve as the general manager and head coach. Since 2005, my first official year as a coach, my accomplishments include: five middle school wrestling state championships (with three different teams), one high school division two baseball championship, one high school football championship and the 2014 NFHS Baseball Coach of the Year for division two baseball. In all, I am very pleased with my accomplishments thus far and continue to be hungry for more!

Once the focus of the lesson is determined, such as catching, hitting or conditioning, each lesson typically runs similarly. Generally, lessons last from 30 to 60 minutes with myself and I am completely devoted to you during that time. If the athlete is a new client, goals and priorities are discussed to create and develop an effective lesson plan. If the athlete is a returning client, each lesson will build off of the last lesson to ensure progress with each lesson going forward. All lessons begin with a brief and efficient warm-up and explanation of the plan for the day’s lesson. Upon completion of the warmup, the lesson is then designed to meet each athlete’s current abilities and to improve/refine their skills and abilities to continue to grow and build. I will work alongside the athlete to introduce, instruct and implement new techniques and ideas to add to the athletes’ “toolbox.” At the end of each lesson, I will review the newly taught material and skills and mentally prepare the athlete for their next upcoming lesson. I can guarantee with each lesson, there is minimal down time, constant movement as well as encouragement and improvement in the athlete’s skills and abilities.
