More About Coach Blake
I am currently an assistant coach at Lafayette College. I specifically work with fielders and also assist with the hitters. I have also coached travel teams for two years, one year spent with each team, (Michigan Braves 18U and Gem City Throwbacks 18U) and coached in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (Quakertown Blazers) in the summer of 2016. I have worked with all ages 6-18, and feel comfortable teaching baseball to any age. I have also been giving private instruction at All Star Baseball Academy for almost two years.
2 years Macomb Community College- 2 year starter at catcher (Captain sophomore year) (Two-time NJCAA Academic All American)
2 years Brescia University- 2 year starter at catcher and first base (Captain senior year, 2nd team all conference at first base)
Was a 3 year starter at catcher at Detroit Catholic Central High School
I break up my lessons in to sections. I start out with simple drill work to teach mechanics, and slowly move to more game speed activities. Starting out on the tee is essential for me to evaluate each players swing, and perform drills to fix certain issues I observe. I start all catching lessons by teaching various stretches to loosen the hips and legs, and proceed to loosening up the arm. I believe that there are multiple ways to teach the fundamentals of baseball, and aim to teach the way that best suits each individual player.
Hitting lesson breakdown- Review of previous lesson(s), tee work/drill work, front toss/angled toss, live batting practice. Lessons may not always include all 3, depending on the level of the player and progression of mechanics presented that particular lesson.
Catching lesson breakdown- stretch, play catch, review of previous lesson(s), progression of stances, receiving, footwork and transfer, throwing, and blocking drills.
