More About Coach Blake
In my young coaching career I have had a lot of experience working with high quality coaches. This year I have worked as an assistant baseball coach at Canterbury School of Florida and was a player coach for University of South Florida St.Petersburg at the same time. I was recently selected to be apart of the executive board at University of South Florida and I am working with the coaches at All-Stars Hitting Academy doing summer camps and lessons. I am still in the process of completing my education degree and will be pursuing my coaching certification upon completion. My experience in the education program has presented my with opportunities to work with children at all age levels and I am very comfortable with teaching the game.
My athletic career, while accomplished, was unfortunately hindered due to injuries. I played four years of varsity baseball at Northeast High School and Canterbury School of Florida. After high school I played two years at Division I Jacksonville University before back surgery ended my competitive career. I have recently started playing at University of South Florida St.Petersburg in order to train for a professional tryout.
A typical session would differ depending on the athlete. Every session would begin with an extensive warm-up consisting of plyometrics, static stretching, and a throwing program. I believe that no matter the player's position a consistent warm-up and program are absolutely necessary. Pitching lessons would be focused on repeating proper mechanics, location, and pitch movement. After a throwing session that will differ between flat grounds, bullpens, and long toss, the focus will turn to core strength and conditioning. These two aspects are very important for young pitchers. Hitting lessons will consist of a lot of tee work as I am a firm believer in the importance of hitting from a tee. After tee work, I will go through different hitting drills that I have found to be useful throughout my playing career. Finally players will hit live. Players will work on hitting to all parts of the field. Defensive work will consist of mostly agilities and repetitive work.
