More About Coach B.J.
I am currently the varsity pitching coach for Windermere Prep. I have experience as the head coach of the JV team and the varsity pitching coach for Celebration High School as well as coaching at the Little League level. I have played the game my entire life at every level from Little League to the Major Leagues. I would like to work with any age group to share my experience and teach all aspects of the game.
I was a 4 year lettermen on my high school varsity baseball team, highlighted by a 7 inning, 20 strikeout performance. Earned All-District and All-Region my sophomore through senior years. Went on to play at the University of Louisville on a full athletic scholarship. While there I helped my team win a Big East Conference championship and make the schools first appearance in the NCAA College World Series. Named team captain my senior year. After college I was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies and began my pro career with the Williamsport Crosscutters in the NY Penn League. I was named my teams Pitcher of the Year posting a 1.00 ERA with 52K in 36IP. The following year I played in the South Atlantic League and made the All-Star team. Prior to my promotion to Double A I had a 0.89 ERA with 19 saves and 65K in 50IP. At the end of that season I represented Team USA in the World Cup which took place in Europe and won a Gold Medal. A couple years later I was called up to the Major Leagues and made my MLB debut against the Baltimore Orioles. I spent parts of 3 years in the Major Leagues and 8 years total in professional baseball learning from some on the best baseball players in the game such as Roy Halladay, Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee and Jonathan Papelbon to name a few.
A typical session would begin with several stretching exercises followed by a throwing program. I want to make sure of proper throwing mechanics. Then we would start working on correct pitching mechanics and fundamentals using several drills and examples. No two people throw exactly the same, so I would try to maximize what feels comfortable along with injury prevention. My knowledge goes well beyond pitching...playing baseball the last 24 years of my life, I can teach infield, outfield, baserunning, and hitting. Combining different aspects is welcomed.
