More About Coach Ben

Having loved playing soccer since an early age, coaching was a natural progression for me. I have been coaching for over 15 years, and 15 in the US since moving here in 2005. I have coached all levels from pre k 2/3 yr olds through K and into 1st and 2nd grade. I currently coach a number of travel and premier club soccer teams and serve as boys Director Of Coaching to one of westchester's biggest clubs. I have experience coaching high school and also college soccer but also have coached Rec and special needs programs, so consider myself well rounded to all levels and abilities.

My Coaching style is to let the game be the teacher, offering guidance and encouragement to kids to express themselves and have fun whilst playing. I want kids to love playing and practicing and seeing them develop and improve is my goal, to improve them individually and to place them in an environment where they are challenged and will succeed.

I have NSCAA, USSF, FA and UEFA coaching qualifications, alongside a Bachelors degree in sports coaching, i have obtained in 15 years of coaching and also seek to improve myself by attending coaching courses and educational events in order to broaden my soccer knowledge.

I started playing soccer at an early age 5/6 and learned to love the game and competing. I played locally on travel and premier teams within Leeds England, i played in high school and college until 19 when i suffered an ACL tear and my focus was directed towards full time coaching after being told i would never play to a high level again.

I also played a high level of Cricket from the age of 7/8 on wards representing my county (state) from the ages for 13-18. I also enjoyed playing both rugby league and rugby union and played locally for an established club and through high school.

Fast paced session starting with a ball each, working technically to improve the player on the ball, remaining comfortable and confident is my focus. To be able to move, control and manipulate the ball is very important in a players development. Ball mastery and 1st touch when receiving is a big focus when coaching a player/s and then adding pressure to challenge them is a progression i like to use to improve their technical ability.

I focus on a lot of 1 on 1 games and situations, encouraging players to be positive with moves/turns/tricks and flicks, being creative and looking to try new things to master them. Finding the balance between challenging the player and having fun is my aim, making sure the kids are working hard but are challenged.

Older players i will include dynamic stretching and a fast paced warm up and progressions in receiving, possession, finishing and defending sessions but also include functional/tactically based sessions for older and higher level teams. I plan all my sessions based on what is age appropriate for the player/s and what that player/s need to focus on.

Client Reviews

Coach Ben is a fantastic coach. He is knowledgeable, patient and understood exactly what my 10 year old son needed to do to improve. We saw a difference immediately. My son loves working with him and will continue to do so!

Coach Ben came prepared, was at the field early and had a good plan for the session. The workout was solid with a lot of helpful coaching insights. What especially impressed me was the immediate feedback and conversation after the session. I would highly recommend him to others looking to improve their game and get honest analysis.

Coach Ben was patient, kind, fun, and super funny according to my 10 year old sons! They learned a lot and can’t wait for the next session. Highly recommend.

Coach Ben is an amazing coach. He is able to correct, encourage and motivate all at once. He has really helped my son improve dramatically in only two sessions. His instruction is clear, concise, and always helpful. We highly recommend him.

Coach Ben is very punctual. Gets to the training ground before scheduled time. I find him extremely reliable and punctual. He knows his onions! Good motivator too.Always set up and ready to start training even ahead of time. My 14 year old soccer buff looks forward to his training with Coach Ben. My son’s confidence is gradually building up and I’m so happy with this improvement.. good work in progress! Coach Ben is focused on helping Tobi achieve his soccer goals and makes the training session fun and challenging. We have increased our sessions from once a week to twice a week. Our 3rd training session is next week and my son is really looking forward to it. We would continue to work with Coach Ben for as long as he’s available to train us. Thanks Coach. Keep up the good work🥂

Coach Ben is outstanding. Energetic, positive, excellent at gearing the training my daughter needs to be a confident, well rounded soccer player. We have experienced several good coaches during our soccer years — and Ben is the best hands down.

Coach Ben is an excellent coach! He is always well prepared with a challenging training plan that takes into consideration my 14 year old son’s desire to focus on technical skills for midfield play. I’m impressed with how easily Ben built a positive rapport with my son. I highly recommend Coach Ben.

We loved Coach Ben! I hired him for some private coaching sessions with my teenage son who was lacking in confidence about his ability. Coach Ben knew how to push him hard while making the sessions fun and interesting. In just a few sessions my son has improved his technique immensely and gained in confidence.

Ben is a great coach. My son has really enjoyed every session, feels more confident, and has seen an improvement in his skills.

We had the pleasure of having Ben Scott coach our son, Malachy, in Lewisboro Soccer Club from 2009-2012. Having played at a relatively high level, I had been my son's coach up until then. We were seriously considering moving on to an Academy team, but decided to give the local travel team a go for one year, as he was about ten years old at the time. When I first met Ben, I asked him if he would consider a co-coaching format, and he said that would be fine. After watching him in action with the team for just one session, I quickly retracted the idea, and had him take over the reins of the team by himself. It was one of the best coaching decisions I've ever made! Suffice to say, that one year with Ben turned into a very positive three years of football. My son went to the next level so well prepared. Ben Scott is one of the most dedicated and thoughtful coaches I've ever been associated with. His preparation for both training sessions and games is beyond words. Ben arrives up to 45 minutes before games and/or training sessions, and instills this philosophy of being prepared into all his squads. Getting there 10 minutes before does not work for him, but being ready to train and play does. He admonishes his players not in an embarrassing manner, but takes the player aside and gently explains why this first rule of football is so vitally important. He always gets his point across. Four years later, the boys that he coached on Lewisboro Extreme, are now starters on the John Jay Varsity squad. They are always the first at training and are never late for games. They are on the field about 30-45 early every time. Being prepared will stay with them as a lifelong lesson, hopefully on and off the football field. My son has played all four years at the Varsity level, and was captain at both Junior and Senior years. I credit Ben and his coaching for laying a solid foundation for this success. Ben has made a point of getting to a few games every single year, despite his busy coaching schedule. The boys are always delighted to see him turn up. He realizes the limitations and strengths of each player very quickly, and builds confidence and skills across the board. He identifies leaders, and puts them in a position where they are comfortable and capable of taking charge. He supports the efforts of the whole team, and is also extremely proactive in discussing any issue with parents. While he worked with my son's team for three years in Lewisboro, the reports from all teams that he trained within the club, at a variety of age ranges, had the same positive tone. His training sessions were a mixture of skills and fun-based drills. Players rarely missed sessions, which says a lot about their loyalty to their coach. He has a perfect temperament for this age group, but I have seen him with both younger and older teams, and have been equally impressed by his approach. We won the league and were promoted to the highest division after working within Ben. We finished the final year winning the top division, and were also voted by the referees as dual winners of the league and sportsmanship award. A rare feat for any team. Ben Scott is an incredible asset for for any team or club. Our biggest mistake was not giving him a Director of Coaching position at Lewisboro, and instilling the same philosophies and skills across every age level within the club. Our loss will be someone's else's gain.
