More About Coach Ben

My coaching philosophy:
If the coach is invested in the success of the athlete, the athlete will in turn learn to be invested in his/her success. This investment turns into self-confidence and a strong work ethic, which then leads to improved performance on the court.

I use all of my knowledge gained through years of experience (listed below), my degrees, and my personal training certification to formulate a program that will lead each athlete I work with to their greatest potential.

Experience:
- I have been doing personal basketball training for over four years and have worked privately with over 50 different athletes ranging from 8 years old to college level athletes.
- I have been the head program coach for a travel basketball program for the last three years, and during my tenure we have won a state and a national championship.
- I worked for three years as the head manager under NCAA Coach of the Year, Jamie Dixon, at the University of Pittsburgh.
- Prior to working at Pitt, I played two season of college basketball at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where our team made the NCAA Division III tournament in my 2nd year.
- I played high school basketball in Gainesville, FL, where I graduated in 2004. In my three years on the Varsity team, I started every single game at point guard, finished top ten in school history in assists, and led the county two years in a row in FT percentage.

Academic Credentials:
- I am a CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER, and I hold the certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
- I have a Master's degree in Sports Management from the University of Florida and graduated with honors in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.

The first session is an opportunity for me to get to know you as a person and as a player. I believe that everyone has a unique way of learning and I tailor my training to each individual's skill set and learning style. After the first session I send out an e-mail with a set of the most important drills for you to work on. Depending on your individual needs and goals, a comprehensive training plan is created to help you reach your full potential. Each session builds on skills and drills learned in previous sessions.

Client Reviews

My daughter connected with Ben right from the start. I observed the session for the last 10 minutes or so, and Ben taught her more low post moves and strategies in those 10 minutes than anyone else had taught her in years.

I think the key to Coach Ben's success is twofold. First, he is extremely competent regarding the game of basketball and player and skill development. He works very hard at it and researches and stay on top of the best fundamental and skills training. He is creative in implementing training techniques and workouts to really help players improve. In short he is very, very talented in his understanding of the game of basketball and his teaching of it. Secondly, he really cares about the players he trains and works with. It is not just a job for Ben. He gets to know the players personally and finds out how to get the best out of them. He has a talent to connect with the kids and it shows in his results.
We were looking for a coach and a team where Matt could develop as a player and be ready for high school basketball. We found that in Coach Ben. His love and knowledge of the game of basketball, combined with a passion for teaching how it should be played properly, was a thing of beauty to watch.
My son worked with Ben Stirt for years. He enjoyed the workouts, became a better basketball player and most importantly, developed confidence and a strong work ethic. I can't recommend this training highly enough.
