More About Coach Benjamin

I have been privately coaching for 3 years and worked with over 30 athletes, many of which for over a year continuously. I started my coaching career in 2013 after a move from Chicago to Colorado. I started my coaching career as an assistant high school track and field coach specializing in Sprints, hurdles and jumps. I then followed that with an assistant high school soccer coach, assisting with the varsity and heading the JV. I then went on to become the head high school track and field coach in spring 2016. I have gone through the Colorado high school coaching certification course as well as the concussion course, first aid/CPR, and participated in the CHSAA spring coaching conference. My expertise lies in ages 12+ and I work very well in both group and individual settings.

I currently play and coach for the Boulder Collective Mens division 1 in the boulder premier league. We won the league just the second season in division 1. I have been playing for 1.5 years a an elite level. I just helped start and play for the Boulder United, Colorado Premier League semi-pro team. I play center back for both teams. I played soccer and ran track all year round in high school. I was the senior captain for soccer, indoor track, and outdoor track. I was starting varsity center back. I was named first team all region my senior soccer season in central Ohio. I was a state competitor my junior and senior year for outdoor track finishing 6th in the state of Ohio in the 110 high hurdles my senior year. I competed on the West Virginia University club indoor track team my freshman year before the team was discontinued. I also went to the state indoor track meet my senior indoor track season placing 10th in the 60m high hurdles.

A typical session with me includes very specific training based on the athletes goals and skill level. I have a very strong understanding of athletes potential and learning patterns after a short sit down session. I believe in joint goal setting, where the athlete has a goal in mind, I add input to make it achievable and motivation based. I have a long list of specific skill training for both soccer and track. my soccer experience is very wide spread, having skill in shooting drills, defensive drills, positioning, movement on/off the ball, vision, and general ball skills. For track my expertise lies in sprints, hurdles, and jumps. I have extensive experience with running form, knee drive, relay exchanges, long jump approach phase/take off/ in air/and landing, hurdle warm up drills, initiation phase, knee drive, trail leg form, lead leg form, three step dynamics. I also have a lot of experience in general strength conditioning and speed work. With all of my experience I work with athletes from many angles. If they are wanted to improve their soccer attacking skills, I would focus on shooting skills, movement off the ball, positioning, and on basic strength and heavy on speed/endurance work. I believe in a multi-faceted approach of honing their entire skill base rather than just hammering and repeating the same thing. I have learned that in order to master a skill their are many different aspects that must be worked on. This may seem like a long approach but I have also learned how to do this efficiently, all that is required is commitment and excitement to improve.

Coach B. was awesome at scheduling with my son and super flexible as well. My high school kid got in the car raving about him and telling me to book more sessions. My son is excited to have a plan for his off season for soccer that will work around his homework and baseball schedule this spring. It was a great first training.

Coach Ben was awesome at my son's first session-helping him feel totally at ease.

Coach Ben has been working with my two young teenagers for one month now. As a parent seeing my teenage boys grow in their confidence, soccer mentality (mental toughness & focus) and creativity is amazing to see! The boys especially like their relationship with Coach Ben, meaning he gets to know them beyond their soccer life, the different challenging drills every week to focus on specific areas, and the discussion during the drills. Coach Ben challenges them and encourages and truly makes a difference in their development. My 14DA player specifically enjoys the high level drills and encouragement during the sessions. My 16DA player specifically enjoys the creativity that Coach Ben allows/encourages. I am a parent that is highly involved in helping these boys reach their professional soccer goals and I know how important allowing creativity is in developing their soccer. If you are looking for beginning or high level coaching we highly recommend Coach Ben.

Coach Davis is an excellent track and field coach. He goes beyond practice every day for each of his athletes to make sure that they can be the most successful. Coach Davis is my hurdles and sprints coach, he has helped my performance improve remarkably. When I started the season, my 100m hurdle time was in the mid-18s. After working with Coach Davis for one practice, I had already learned how to 3-step which eventually brought my PR down to a 17.16. He goes beyond the track when coaching an athlete from researching new techniques to bonding with the athlete. Coach Davis helped me improve immensely as an athlete in all areas including physically and mentally so that I can compete at my best.
Throughout my years in running track, I haven’t been more inspired to run as well as I do until Ben decided to coach our 2015 track team. I have been running track for 4 years, 2 years in middle school, and 2 years in high school. My biggest goal in running track was to make it to state at the end of the year. Ben helped me achieve my goal this year. I made it to states in the 400 meter relay, the 800 meter relay and the medley. This year Ben has taught me to be strong and to push myself. He has taught me so much about running and has improved my running skills just in one season. Ben is a very influential runner and speaking for my track team, I know that each and every one of us look up to him. Ben was a very supportive coach and I am happy that I got to work with him this season.
Over the past year, I have had the pleasure of having Ben Davis as a soccer and track coach. On time off, he has also played alongside me on an indoor soccer team with him. During each season working with Ben, I achieved my best physical performances of my high school career and both seasons were the two that I am most proud of. At the beginning of our soccer season, Ben became our new assistant coach and we were told that he would help us attain the physical boost that we had not had in the previous years. He quickly took over that aspect by introducing exercises that not only improved our soccer skills, but also heavily impacted endurance and strength, two key factors in being competitive throughout entire soccer games. After the pre-season, he became the defensive coach with a smaller part of the team, including myself. Being the captain, I had many in depth conversations with Ben about how to improve my game and leadership on bus rides home or just time off. These conversations quickly translated to not only my actions on the field but also a huge improvement in team play, and chemistry among the players and coaches as well. At the end of the season, two of our four starting defenders made the all conference first team, and the other two received an honorable mention for the same award, where we ended with the best overall defense in our league. For me, an effective coach is somebody that is easy to get along with but also a person I have a lot of respect for. Ben is both of these things and many more. The more time I spent with Ben both during and outside of practice and games he quickly became a good friend of mine, but continued to be a driving force for me being competitive in soccer and track. In our time off we would play soccer where I would continue to work on my game, and in the winter I got to play alongside Ben in an indoor soccer league. By watching Ben and playing with Ben, I gained a way of learning new skills and developing new aspects of the way that I play it has made me a better player. Not only did this improve my skills, but I also got to know someone that I can call a genuine friend and great influence, which are very special aspects in a great coach. The knowledge that he has of soccer and track, and his ability to connect with people, whether players or competitors, beginner or advanced, make him a great coach with a competitive push able to take athletes to a higher level in their game.
In the time that I have known and worked with Ben Davis as a track coach for Crested Butte High School he has greatly impressed me with his coaching abilities. With a background in several different sports he has a thorough understanding of the body’s systems and how to shape athletes in order to maximize performance. He looks at every athlete as an individual and understands how to specify training to take advantage of each athlete’s strengths and weaknesses. Anyone looking to reach their goals as an athlete will greatly benefit from Ben’s coaching.
