More About Coach Austin
I have experience coaching at various age levels. I have been an assistant coach part time at the high school level in my time between seasons. I have experience coaching kids ages 5-12 as well. I have a vast knowledge of the game as I have spent my entire life playing the game, as well as 4 years playing college baseball.
In high school I was 3x all West-Central conference, Putnam County Player of the Year, Senior of the year, honerable mention All-State, East-West All-Star. In my junior year of college baseball I was second team All-Crossroads League. I hold a couple batting records in the state of Indiana for high school as well as multiple school records.
My lesson wouldn’t just cover hitting, I would also cover fielding skills with the player no matter what position they were. I was a catcher all through my playing days through the most part so I would be an excellent coach for that as well. So if I had a player who was a catcher, this would be the lesson based on a 1 hour lesson. The first 20 minutes of the lesson would be defense oriented. We would go through specific drills, procedures and proper mechanics, as time permits of course. After that, we would head directly to the batting cage to work on hitting. We would start with 5 cuts off of the tee, with emphasis on driving the ball with backspin to the back of the net. We would then move into front toss, with emphasis of spraying the field, then finally we would move into over hand. In between an during these segments, the player and I would go over proper form, mechanics, etc and correct anything that needed to be corrected. Let me be clear, I am not here to make your athlete into a robot. I will not make them hit in a certain stance, certain swing, etc. I believe that each athlete is unique and no one person is the same and we all produce differently. It is all about finding comfortability and working from that. It is from there that your child will grow into the exceptional player that we know they can be.
