Every session begins with proper warmup, injury prevention, and activation, for about 10-15 minutes.
Every session will then lead into a few sets of passing, moving and receiving through various drills and directions for about 10-15 minutes. This tends to keep players physically and mentally engaged by continually encouraging proper game habits such as, checking shoulders, demanding the ball, and change of pace to name a few. It also is the first touches on the ball to set the tone for the rest of a session. This work will be the foundation of whatever the main focus of a session will be.
The last half hour involves whatever position specific work the player needs or wishes to focus on. This will usually be more intense than the previous 20-30 minutes of our session and will require the player to build off of the work they did in the technical drills we previously worked on. We are looking for game level intensity and output from the trainee to force them into the same scenarios they need to improve in games. I believe fitness work can be done with a ball and this is where we get the bulk of our fitness work. Depending on if it’s off-season determines the amount of fitness I involve.
Lastly, the session ends with a recap of the session and a proper cooldown that a player can complete at the end of the full hour of training.
