More About Coach Arthur

I have worked as a coach for high school level, with my only team experience being with the Browning School this past fall where I helped both the varsity and junior varsity teams. However, prior to that I did some 1-on-1 training with D1 soccer players during my time at Dartmouth. Following my time in college, at a professional level, I have had the opportunity of working with Eduvie Ikoba and Meshack Ubochioma during their time at Zalaegerszegi TE FC in their Hungarian Cup winning season.

I have only ever competed at the collegiate level in the NYCAL league, and was named an All League Player and received a sportsmanship award voted by other coaches the fall of my senior year 2014. I also was top scorer for my team all three years I played after transferring my sophomore year from Ghana, West Africa. Despite only ever competing at high school level, I had a stint in college training with the Dartmouth men's varsity team on a few occasions my freshman, sophomore, and junior year.

In working with players, I prioritize building their physical work capacities (endurance, speed, strength, flexibility, and coordination). However, considering the inverse relationships across these motor performance abilities and the need to anticipate the trade offs of developing each, I tend to privilege training that target flexibility and endurance. On the one hand, flexibility is a priority on account of the fact that appropriate and optimal flexibility not only permit effective use of the other four motor abilities, but it also serves as an injury prevention strategy to deter interruptions in athletes' development. On the other hand, the emphasis on endurance is to maximize athletes ability to perform with more intensity and become more fatigue resistant over longer periods.
By extension, the emphasis on developing both these motor performance abilities necessitate neuromuscular efficiency through functional training utilizing the Greasing the Groove theoretical approach developed by Pavel Tsatsouline—seeking perfect execution of techniques and form without pushing athletes to fatigue or burnout. Therefore, sessions would be integrative considering each of the aforementioned principles of training, while from a playing or performance outcome perspective, be focused on helping players enhance in game reaction while minimizing areas of weakness as a pathway to building mental toughness & emotional control necessary for in game circumstances.
