More About Coach Anthony

Hi, my name is Anthony Arvidson. I specialize mainly in the strategy and course management area of golf. I have 25 years of competitive golf experience that has led me to where I am today. There are so many instructors that only teach mechanics, but without a solid approach to your round you will ultimately never improve as much as you should. I was a collegiate all-American at Oregon State University, and was all Pac-10 conference 3 of my 4 years. I played professionally on multiple mini-tours from 2002 to 2007, and I played in the U.S. Open in 2003 at Olympia Fields just outside Chicago. If you need help learning how to PLAY golf, I would love to help!

-1997 First Team all-State (Oregon)
-1997 AJGA Rolex Junior All-American
-1997,1999,2000 All Pac-10 conference at Oregon St (first team in 2000)
-Won Oregon Stroke Play Champship in 1999, and 2000
-2000 Collegiate All-American
-2 time All-American Scholar
-Won 4 collegiate events in 4 years at Oregon St.
-Member of the 2000 Fuji Xerox USA vs Japan team event (won that event by 5 shots shooting 69-69-68)
*members of that team included (Ricky Barnes, Hunter Mahan, Nick Watney, and Rob Oppenheim)
-Qualified for 2003 U.S. Open (missed cut, shot 75-78)
-Won numerous mini tour events in my 6 year career
-Won Oregon Coast Invitational in 2013 (Amateur)
-2 time Gainey Ranch Club Champion (2015-2016)

A normal session is 9 holes of on-course instruction. While we can work on the range and work on fundamentals, I prefer to coach people in the areas of course management and strategy. I make sure that we are focused on every shot and what we are trying to do. Some of the main focuses are wind, assessing different lies, learning which pins to go at versus play away from, lay up yardages, and learning which clubs to use and WHEN. I also focus highly on "functional yardages", which is learning to assess how far a shot is actually playing, versus what the yardage says. All of these factors affect your score greatly, and I can help you understand them so you can play to the top of your potential.

Client Reviews

Anthony has competed at the highest levels at all ages, and has the experience to educate the golfer that wants to improve the way they play and think around the golf course. Course management is a huge part of playing your best golf, and can separate you from the golfer you are and the golfer you want to be.
If you’re tired of hearing that golf is played in the 6 inches between your ears, and really not knowing how to implement that, then Anthony’s new concept would be just for you. Too many golf lessons are about the driving range, swing plane, grip, stance, stack/tilt… etc. etc. etc. I finally started taking a couple of lessons about how to manage my way around the golf course, and what to be thinking while I’m out there. I’m a 9 handicap. I have the shots, but not the consistency. I end every round talking about the 2 or 3 double bogeys that kept me from shooting in the 70’s. There are a lot of golfers like me out there… I’ve taken 2 lessons from Mr. Arvidson, and they’re different than any lessons that I’ve had before. We cover how to play each hole from the flag back to the tee. How to factor wind. How will the lie effect your shot. How to know your spin, and rollout. How to play to the safe side. What areas are dead zones. When are pins too risky. And even, what are your thoughts leading up to your shot. After not breaking 80 for 4 straight months, I went out and shot 72! With a 32 on the back 9! And the most remarkable thing was how unremarkable the round felt. It was playing the solid, mistake free golf that you see the scratch golfers play. It was not a series of lucky 30 footers or chip-ins. My playing partners didn’t even realize what a great round I had going until the last 2 holes. I would urge anyone to give it a try. Get off the range. Go learn to play golf!
