More About Coach Andrew
I have coached every age from 12s-18s, and will be coaching at the collegiate level starting this August. I am comfortable and confident helping any age athlete improve or advance. I have worked with teams and athletes in both Southern and Northern California, most recently at Xceleration VBC and Cal Stars VBC. I will be Head Coach at Pacific Union College (NAIA) starting in August. I have no preference on age group. Anyone from beginner to advanced is someone I believe I can help.
I have just basic coaching certifications. I have CPR, Safesport, Impact training, Cardiovascular endurance, etc.
I did not play in college. So, all of my athletic accomplishments are from high school and club. I was captain 2 season, DVAL first and second team, and defensive player of the year.
First thing I would do is ask for film. If they have access to it, it’s easier for me to plan a session if I’m able to see ahead of time what they need to work on. At the start, I’d go over that film with them so they see what I see. Then have them walk me through the skill step by step to see how they interpret what they’ve been taught so far. We walk through together at this point, hopefully having them feel and notice their own mistakes. I’d have film of a professional player doing similar movements, so they can see and try to mimic proper form and consistency. After this, I would give 1-2 drills to get them moving and reiterating what we just talked about. Drills are interchangeable and optional across skill level of athletes. Reps reps reps…reps. At the end I like to have some sort of game scenario or fun competition set up. At the end of our sessions, they debrief and tell me what they’re walking away with (or they tell their parents what they’re learned so they can help hold them accountable).
