More About Coach Andrew

Andrew Gardiner has over 25 years coaching experience at all levels. Andrew has coached representative and all star team as well as a Men's professional basketball team in New Zealand. He has also run a school academy which catered for children from 4 all the way through to 18.

Andrew played NCAA Div 1 at San Jose State University. He went on to represent his country of New Zealand playing for the top men's national basketball team for over 10 years. He also played professionally in New Zealand for over 20 years in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch before retiring in 2002. Andrew went on to start a professional men's basketball team with his wife Amy Gardiner. He has most recently refocused his coaching on youth ages 8-17 as he has a real passion for mentoring kids both on and off the court.

The focus of a session with basketball clients is to not only improve their individual basketball fundamentals with a focus on positional work, but to strengthen their team play. Andrew understands that 'your attitude' towards learning and your ability to be coached is the most important skill a player can possess and is also a key attribute that recruiters will look for when choosing individuals for their high school, college, and university programs.

Coach Andrew is always positive and player-focused, providing the right kind of feedback for
my eleven year old daughter. He encourages her to work hard on the court (and she sweats!) but it's in a non-threatening environment, so she is receptive to the feedback. My daughter is a natural athlete who needs fine tuning in the fundamentals. He has worked on her shooting and passing, and layups have improved significantly. in fact in two sessions, her left side layups have improved. Actually, she wasn't able to really do a left handed lay up. Now she gets it! not only does she work hard, she enjoys it. She definitely sees the value in training and I know that has everything to do with Coach Andrew's focused, but positive coaching.

Coach Andrew is great with the girls basketball and a good communicator. My daughter really liked him, he made her feel comfortable and challenged. I would not hesitate to recommend him for training with boys or girls, plus he's got that fantastic accent.
