More About Coach Ammon

I have trained or played in athletics for over 20 years. I have trained world class strength athletes for 15 years. I have taken 400 pound bench pressers and in a few months with technique and more structure got them to a 600+ Pound lifter. I have been a strength and conditioning coach at the college level and helped athletes to be in shape and gain more strength for their sport.

I have the privilege of helping all athletes in obtaining their overall goals from strength, agility, and speed. My main goal as a coach is to provide efficient motivation, knowledge, and desire for each athlete to obtain their goals as an athlete and a team.

A Strength and Conditioning coach is to increase a better athlete and develop better character of each student athlete. Safety is of the utmost importance. I will show each athlete proper technique for each lift.We will have exercises to help limit concussions, ACL tears, and muscle sprains.

Each athlete will be taught by many different learning techniques, from verbal, demonstration of techniques, and visual communication. All questions are welcome. As long as the athletes know I care they will put their best efforts forward, for me and the team.

I believe all athletes are equal, no special treatment and they will all know the expectations from me through verbal communication and written communication. I do not feel any person should belittle another person and that will never happen from anyone. I’m a very blunt person with a little bit of humor.

I have a Bachelor degree and I’m pursuing a Masters degree in Strength and Conditioning from Southern Utah. I’m certified and a member with American College of Sports Medicine (CPT) . Also certified with National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCS) and National Academy of Sports Medicine (PES).

I have won 4 world championships and am ranked in the top 50 all time, drug free. I have helped many other athletes achieve the same. I have came out of a 6 year retirement and will be lifting in two world championships this year with a 650 + squat , 450 + bench press, and 625 + deadlift in the 165 lb weight class. I'm one of the best deadlifters in the 2000's and will achieve more in this decade also.

I have been featured in many strength sport magazines and newspapers along the years. I have records that were set 10 and 15 years ago that still have not been broken.

Start and End of Practice:

The start of practice will start with role call. I will find out from coaches and trainers who is injured, but will also ask them how they are feeling, their hydration levels, and their eating habits. Stressing the importance of those three things will give the athletes a sense of what is important in becoming a better athlete. I will also have some small motivation message to keep kids on track.

Pre and Post Workouts:

Stretching before and after the workout will be necessary for gaining better range of motion and help prevent injuries. The beginning will start with specific stretches for the range of motion for the day. We then will jump into a small form running before getting into the workout. Stretches we perform will be dependent on what the exercises we are doing for the day.

Gaining Success:

Simple hard work over time will help to make improvements in sport specific movements. As an example: Choosing proper training exercises and Volume with the proper motivation for each athlete while educating and coaching on proper techniques, nutrition, and rest will increase each teams potential of a better athlete and decreasing the chance of injury.

Stretches (5min total):
- Blue bridge
- Straight leg lift
- Onside inside outside leg
- Knee Leg Pick Ups
- Donkey Kicks
- Hip Circles
- Bird Dogs
- T Spine Rotations
- Body Squats
- Split squat

Form Running, Simple Plyometrics (10min total):
- Cradle Walk
- Quad Walk
- Over the Fence Under the Fence
- Single Leg RDL Walk
- Reverse Lung Twist Across
- High Knees
- Butt Kicks
- A-Skips
- Shovel Arm Swing

Post Exercise Stretches:

This is the most important part to better recovery and gain flexibility. If available we will foam roll all areas and band stretch the area we worked on. If we don't have foam rolls or bands for stretching we will employ normal static stretching on all areas, those that are stretched will be the muscle groups we worked on for the practice.

Overall Session (30-55 min workout).
