More About Coach Akio
I have 8+ years of coaching experience in gymnastics and athletic development, helping athletes build strong fundamentals, confidence, and consistent performance through safe, step-by-step progressions. I’ve coached athletes from recreational beginners through competitive pathway levels, including Xcel Bronze, Silver, and Gold, focusing on clean technique, strength, flexibility, and body awareness. I’ve worked as a gymnastics coach and program leader in structured gym environments, coaching both team and small-group sessions and supporting day-to-day program operations. I typically work with kids and teens (about ages 4–18), and I also enjoy helping adults rebuild strength, mobility, and tumbling fundamentals when appropriate. USA SafeSport Certified, Active USAG member/coach
I have competed 4 years in the United States Trampoline & Tumbling. 1st, 2nd Place 2018-2022. I competed with ThePeachPit out of Atlanta Georgia.
Here’s a CoachUp-ready **Session Plan** you can paste in (gymnastics/tumbling + athletic development). It reads professional, clear, and parent-friendly.
**Typical Session Plan (60 minutes):**
Clients can expect a **structured, safety-first session** with clear goals and measurable progress. Every session is tailored to the athlete’s age, level, and confidence.
**1) Goal + readiness check (3–5 min)**
We review today’s goal (ex: cleaner roundoff, back handspring basics, stronger jumps/landing control, flexibility) and I check for soreness or tightness so we train smart and safely.
**2) Warm-up + mobility (8–10 min)**
Dynamic warm-up to prepare the body for tumbling: ankles, hips, wrists, shoulders, and core activation—plus light cardio and movement prep.
**3) Fundamentals & body shapes (10–15 min)**
This is where consistency comes from. We drill:
* **Hollow/arch control** and core tightness
* **Landing mechanics** (knees/hips aligned, stick position)
* **Balance + coordination** drills
* **Run/hurdle basics** when tumbling is the goal
**4) Skill progressions (20–25 min)**
Main training block using step-by-step progressions (no rushing):
* Technique breakdown + cues
* Drills that target the athlete’s “weak link” (takeoff, timing, snap-down, block, set)
* Quality reps with proper rest so form stays clean
* Optional video feedback for faster correction
**5) Strength + flexibility finisher (5–8 min)**
Targeted conditioning and mobility that directly supports the skill we worked (core, glutes, hamstrings, shoulders, hip mobility).
**6) Cool-down + homework (2–5 min)**
Quick recap + 2–4 at-home drills so progress continues between sessions.
**What I focus on most:** clean fundamentals, confidence, and safe progressions—so athletes don’t just “get” a skill once, they learn it consistently.
