More About Coach Wesley

I coach fundamentals, skill sets, strategy, strength, conditioning, coordination, balance, power, and speed for basketball, volleyball, and football. My first year as a coach was when I was 18 years old coaching a 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team for Santee American Basketball League. The next year I coached the same age group for the same league. I then trained one of my former players one on one for a couple months to prepare him for high school. I then was a surf coach for 3 summers at Surf Sessions Surf Camp. In September of 2014 I began working for Fitworx which trains youth for sports and strength and conditioning. February 15, 2015 I was certified as a personal trainer by the National Council of Strength and Fitness. Then in March of 2015 I got hired at West Hills High School as the JV boys volleyball head coach. Only one of the boys on the team had any experience playing competitive volleyball. We went undefeated in league and got 2nd place in the silver bracket in the West Coast Boys Volleyball high school tournament hosted by Valhalla High School. I continue to train the West Hills Boys Volleyball team. I have worked with all age groups under the age of 18.

I began playing basketball in 2001 for Santee American Basketball League and played there for 6 years. I attended the West Hills Wolfpack Summer Basketball camp for 3 years in a row. When I was in 8th grade I began to play for the West Hills freshmen team summer season. Half way through that season I was pulled up to JV before I even got into high school. I played for West Hills high school for 3 years. I continue to play basketball in recreational leagues. I began playing football in 2003 for the Santee Cowboys. I played for the cowboys for 3 seasons as a defensive end, wide receiver, running back, line backer, and corner back. I also played one season for the NYS Santee Titans 8 man team as a defensive end, wide receiver, and kick returner. I then played at West Hills high school for 3 years as a line backer and a wide receiver. I began playing volleyball not until my freshmen year of high school. I played JV as a freshmen as an outside hitter and led my team in kills. I then played 3 years on varsity as the starting outside hitter and lead my team in kills all three seasons and made first team all league my last two years there. I also played one year for Seaside Volleyball Club where I again led my team in kills. After high school I began training with the Grossmont College Mens Volleyball team. I continue to play recreational volleyball.

In a typical training session warm up is very important. I believe in starting out with skill emphasis and building from simple to complex drills. This helps athletes build a strong foundation in their skill sets and techniques. All sports requires high physical performance so I believe working certain muscles every session is important. I build my program in block sessions (4 week, 6 week, or 8 week) so the athlete can grow and progress. I am prepared train athletes to their potential and build their confidence to do so.
