With over four decades of experience in combat sports and a passion for transforming lives through athletic excellence, "Coach Coop" has dedicated his career to building champions both in and out of the ring. As a Level II Certified Coach and Official with USA Boxing Association and the International Boxing Association (AIBA), he specializes in developing world-class athletes while giving back to his community.
Professional Experience
Coach Coop has serves as the head boxing coach at one of America's premier Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools, where he trains both amateur and professional fighters. He also, currently holds the position of Head Coach for the University of Maryland Boxing Team since 2023. His multifaceted involvement in boxing extends to being a licensed boxing promoter and manager, allowing him to guide fighters through every aspect of their careers from training to professional development.
Since 2005, he has coached numerous champions, including winners of:
- Junior Olympic Championships
- Golden Gloves Championships
- Silver Gloves Championships (including coaching an athlete to #2 national ranking)
- Sugar Bert National Tournament Qualifiers Championships
His expertise extends beyond traditional boxing, as he also trains professional MMA athletes in advanced striking techniques, combining his deep understanding of the sweet science with modern combat sports requirements.
Athletic Background
Coach Coop's journey in combat sports began in 1978, culminating in competing in the 1992 Olympic Trials. He turned professional in 1994 and expanded his martial arts knowledge with a brown belt in Tae Kwon Do under Master Michael Cole. While an eye retina injury ended his professional boxing career, it opened new doors for coaching and mentorship.

As the Head Coach of #11 Overcomers Boxing Team, Coach Coop is committed to providing opportunities for at-risk youth in the inner city. His program has taken young athletes from local neighborhoods to international competitions, including events in Dublin, Ireland, broadening their horizons and building character through sport.

Coach Cooper, had the fortitude to display his amateur boxing skills all across the United States on the local, reginal and national level. Also, to include competing in the 1992 Olympic Trials.
You should come prepared for a dose of excitement and a display of boxing intuitive techniques. This will consist of stressing, warm-up exercise, ring footwork, shadow boxing techniques, mitt work, heavy bag and etc.
What you need to bring with you? Comfortable gear, your hand wraps, bag gloves and a bottle of water to stay hydrated. . .
