More About Coach Sydney

Through out my time as a collegiate athlete I helped train many young girls (ages 8-18) both privately and in small group settings. With aspirations of becoming a collegiate coach, I have assisted in coaching successful youth teams for the Portland Thorns Eastside soccer club based in Portland, Oregon where I have learned skills aiding in team session coaching skills.

Hello! My name is Sydney and I am currently a professional soccer player for the North Carolina Courage. During my time in college I was a two year captain at the University of California, Berkeley before being drafted #8 overall to the courage in January of 2023. My international experience includes playing for the United States U17 and U23 teams and the full Canadian National Team as I am a dual citizen.

In building an athlete/coach relationship it is important for me to best understand the athletes' goals and areas of improvement so I can best plan the session. I like to build my sessions around inspiration and trust so it's very important for me to familiarize myself with the athletes strengths and weaknesses to incorporate both during our time together. While I feel well versed and experienced to coach many areas and positions of the game, I personally have played defense for the last 7 years of my career. One thing to note about me as a coach is that I am extremely open to feedback and am willing to run the session that will most benefit the athlete!

A typical session with me would go as follows (subject to change depending on what the athlete wants to work on): a dynamic warm up with speed and agility incorporated, technical touches on the ball (ie.dribbling, passing combinations, juggling, turning, ball control), an area of focus (the athlete may chose more than one but some examples include: crossing, finishing/shooting/defensive techniques/combinations to goal), heading, shooting game, pks to finish.

Sydney is a great coach! She’s with you every step of the way through a drill and at a good pace. She uses active recall to ensure you retain what you’ve learned and what you learn is tailored to your individual needs! Also, the way she breakdowns certain aspects of the game is easy to understand and implement. Super nice coach all around and great person!
