More About Coach Stevie
I have been coaching volleyball since I was about 13 years old really but officially since I was 16. I first started coaching with Front Range Volleyball club, the club I played for in Colorado durning my time recovering from two knee surgeries, one when I was 15 and another 17. I worked along side Jim Miret whom was once the assistant coach of the Women's Olympic team. Jim and Front Range has a very great detailed training method I had the honor of learning and being able to teach. I helped the coaches at front range run skills camps and clinics during my time off from my injury, it was also a way to help keep me learning the game while I couldn't play, teaching is a great learning tool they encouraged me to use. I was also selected as one of the players to help develop the Front Range Mountain teams, a branch of Front Range VBC available for girls in the Mountain towns to be a part of without having to drive 6-8 hours to practice (like many began to do).
After that, I coached an 8th grade feeder team for one season durning my extra year of club. I then went to college to play volleyball where I would occasionally train younger girls skills for work in my free time.
Then I went to college and played volleyball and spent some time managing the basketball team. I helped the head coach understand his players better. I would also give my opinion on the line up, me and his daughter always chose the same starting 5, it was fun and a great learning experience of coaching.
Most recently I was the head coach of the Junior Varsity team at Mountain Vista High School in Colorado (record: 14-4) and the assistant coach for the Varsity team (record: 20-5 ). The Varsity took second at state this year, the best finish Mountain Vista Volleyball has ever had. After season was over I did individual training sessions with some of the freshman to help develop their skills.
Besides coaching volleyball I have been coaching people in the game of life, whether that be with training clients with their thoughts to be more optimistic or to encourage them to make healthier lifestyle decisions, I have had the honor of coaching a lot of people through many obstacles and illnesses. My optimistic attitude gives me the ability to see the silver lining in all situations.
During my short Varsity High school career (due to knee injury) my senior year I got an honorable mention at State. I played Varsity all 4 years despite my injury as well as JV the first two years.
I played club volleyball for Colorado Juniors and Front Range Volleyball Club in Colorado. During my time at Colorado Juniors we finished top 5 at Nationals.
Durning my time at Front Range we took second at Nationals my 15's year, finished 9th at Nationals my 16's year and finished top 5 at Nationals in the open division my 18's year.
After club I played for a small D1 team in Louisiana called Centenary College of Louisiana and later transferred to Vanguard University in Southern California.
Due to injuries I was unable to continue my career my last year of college volleyball. As a competitor I never got my chance to compete the way I wanted to after knee surgery at the age of 15 and 17. But I did get the chance to play amongst some of the best players nationally of my age group and older durning my club years. I just never made it to the big leagues myself in college. Due to this experience I have had many coaches tell me I have a deeper passion for the game, a passion I know creates the magic in my work.
After everything I have experienced as an athlete one of the most important things I will be focusing on is the overall health and physical condition of my client. It is important for each player to develop strength, coordination, balance, speed, and flexibility along with the skills it takes to play volleyball.
Each session will start with a long warmup that will help improve this strength, coordination, balance, speed, and flexibility.
First we will start with breath work. Then we will do join work beginning from the top with our head/neck, then move down to the wrists, elbows, shoulders, waist, ankles, knees, hips/pelvis, and then do some stretching.
I have been training martial arts for over a year and believe the joint work in the Gun Fa are perfect for the healing and development of athletes as they train.
After the warmup each session will be based around the client and their needs. The exercises will be designed around the client's needs while also implementing volleyball skills. For example one of the freshman girls I just worked with needed to work on drawing her arm swing into a stronger position, so, in the middle of hitting a cart of balls, we stopped and I had her do squats while swinging her arms and stopping at the peak of her arm swing, getting into a rhythm helping her feel what it's like to draw strong but smooth, so she could really feel what I meant about drawing your bow (for hitting).
I am also just very creative and very passionate about working out, and have a passion for working with kids (because I'm good at it and they are much more fun than working with adults ;)) with these things I am able to create the perfect training session for your child! I also have a very observant eye and like to correct even the littlest of things right from the go, even statements that your child says. I like to use the power of spoken positive affirmations, it worked amazingly well at state for our junior liberro, she said "Stevie I'm not going to let any balls drop", I said that's great but how about you tell yourself "I am going to get every ball up", she loved it and got enough balls up to be the only player on our team on the Denver Posts All State Player as a Junior. It was so fun to witness.
Anyway, every session with each client will be different depending on the client's needs, skill level, and physical condition. If we're going to work hard, let's do it right the first time, and then every time!

Monica (CoachUp client)
Coach Stevie your words of encouragement left Sarah thinking positivity. At practice she listened and stayed out of her mind. Her mistakes were shaken off and she applied what u said to her. She had an awesome time working with you - thank you!
Carrie (CoachUp client)
Stevie was patient and kind. She took her time teaching my daughter the basic way to stand, hit and follow through. I think her explanations of why to do certain moves a certain way helped my daughter remember the techniques better. She is very enthusiastic and dedicated to teaching! We hope to sign up for some more sessions soon!
Thanks Stevie:)

Stevie was awesome. The girls had fun with her, learned a lot and are looking forward to their next lesson.
Christopher Barnett (16) manager for JV and player on the boy's team at the HS (Testimonial)
Stevie Kaye has been an incredible coach on and off the court this season. She is extremely knowlegeable about every aspect of the game, especially hitting. She helped correct my swing from that of a drunk monkey to practically olympic quality. She excels in the teaching of fundamentals, and has the patience and attentiveness to spot exactly what you need to focus on. Overall Stevie Kaye is an outstanding coach who is very dedicated, and will put forward an amazing amount of energy and time to improving your skills as quickly as possible. (Chris was my manager for the JV team and helped with Varsity as well. He's over exaggerating because his swing has a lot of reps to go but we believes he will get as far as he wants to go... Which is the olympics!~ Stevie Kaye)
Grace Trotter (Testimonial)
I have played club volleyball for the past few years and each year I have felt worse and worse about my skill and mentality. Thoughts are starting to affect the way you play more and more as you get older, so it was harder for me to play. I thought my high school season would be my last season because of how much joy club had taken from me. I was wrong. Stevie brought me up and made me feel like I had potential. She made a huge impact on me. She genuinely cares about how you play and where your mental state is at. She would constantly work with my friends and me after school on volleyball and just to work out. I’ve had many coaches in the past, but Stevie has a different kind of coaching style more people need to be exposed to. When you’re with her she can point out exactly what you’re doing and tell you how to fix it in a clear way. She always kept a player's mental state in mind. Making someone feel bad or hurting someone's feelings never happened because she always finds love and hope for people. Even if someone was having a hard time figuring something out, she would stay calm and not get frustrated. Stevie didn’t just teach us about volleyball, she taught us about health and the benefits of different skills. Before working with Stevie I never stretched before I played. Now I know that being flexible can approve your all around play and focus in everything. She has fun and pushes you. Stevie has helped me become a better volleyball player and person. She has inspired me to find the beauty in everything and encouraged me to keep playing. If it wasn’t for her, I don’t know if I would be playing right now. Stevie is one of the best coaches I’ve ever had.

From the very first day I saw you, I knew you were going to be an amazing coach! You are so confident, hard core, motivated, and so much more. These very important traits make up the perfect coach, you. When I saw you working with the JV team, I was extremely impressed. You have driven me to work harder than I ever had before (and I already work really hard so you are inspiring!). All that hard work is all going to MVHS volleyball so I can be on your team next year! I love how you push your team to make them the best. Plus, I was seriously impressed when you were telling the audience at the Volleyball dinner that many players on your team improved their verticals by a couple inches! I want that to be me! There is so much more I could say about you and your incredible coaching skills, but I need to thank you for coming to MVHS and making our lives even more great! I hope to see you next year as my coach:)
Claire Wohlleber (Testimonial)
This was my first year of playing high school volleyball, and I learned so much about keeping an overall healthy lifestyle and how it can affect your game on and off the court. Stevie made me believe even more in myself then I did before and that improved my game mentally which is one of the big parts of volleyball. The warm ups we did made me more warmed up than the dynamic warm ups I do for club. She believed in me even when I was in one of my rough patches and couldn't dig out of it myself. I could rely on her to tell me what I was doing wrong and how to fix it when I didn't know how. She really made sure she got to know all of her players and made sure we got to know each other to improve our abilities on the court. She made me realize the amount of potential I have if I keep working hard to achieve my goals in volleyball. I could go into a lot more detail, but that would take up too many pages. By far one of my favorite coaches.
