More About Coach Steve
I started teaching several years ago after realizing that I have more knowledge in kickboxing than the instructors at the gyms that I have visited or trained at. In addition to private in-home classes, I have taught kickboxing and martial arts in Austin, Texas, at Guerrilla Fitness, Austin Blackbelt Academy, and Monolith Training Center, Ironjaw Boxing Gym, Step In The Ring Boxing Gym and Austin Impact Jeet Kun Do Studio.
I am the only person in Austin to be personally instructed and certified to 5th degree blackbelt level (teacher level) by the legendary champion Benny "The Jet" Urquidez (statistically the best fighter in history, the longest reigning undefeated world champion throughout all professional sports, and the fighter with the most world title defenses in history, 64 with 59 knockouts).
My certification by "The Jet" is posted on his website under the "certified instructors tab". It is also listed on page 187 of his autobiography, "The Jet".
This certification was earned by 32 years of study and training in the UKIDOKAN system of training and fighting, including 7.5 years of training directly under Sensei Benny Urquidez, the founder of UKIDOKAN.
I have been in the ring and on the mat with world champions, north American champions, American champions, Pan Pacific Taekwondo Champion, All Tokyo Taekwondo champion, pro boxers, golden gloves champs as well as hundreds of UKIDOKAN students, taekwondo students, and boxing students. Although my certification is as a kickboxing instructor, I have studied and practiced UKIDOKAN martial arts, which combines techniques from 9 martial arts.
I first warm up, to prepare for a hard stretching session, by running, skipping rope or other cardio exercises. Then, a total body stretch to limber the muscles for martial training. I take new students through all offensive and defensive techniques, and footwork, then teach them combinations, philosophy, theory and warrior's meditation.
I will adjust the training based upon the students skill level.
Classes are varied in content because of the vast amount of technique taught. The UKIDOKAN system created by "The Jet" includes techniques from boxing, taekwondo, muay thai, aikido, judo, jiu-jitsu, lebellian grappling (judo Gene LeBell).
If the class is not private, will give advanced students techniques to practice while I work with the new student.

Mitchell Stanley (Testimonial)
I spent two years training in ukidokan kickboxing with sensei Steve. If your are looking to better your fighting skills or a change of perspective and attitude to life I would highly recommend learning the art of ukidokan. Many thanks to Master Benny Urquidez and Sensei Steve Shauger for sharing their way of life with others...
Forrest Caudill (Testimonial)
I ran into Steve Shauger, the kickboxing instructor, at Walmart. He trained with legendary kickboxing fighter and martial arts trainer Benny "The Jet" Urquidez and he is a kickboxing and martial arts instructor under him. He offered to teach me and I couldn't turn down a chance to learn the style of such a martial arts legend. So I started training privately from him almost immediately. I've trained with several Muay Thai, boxing, and other martial arts instructors. But Steve is by far the most attentive and prepared instructor I've worked with. He truly has a passion for his art. And he does a phenomenal job of working with you to make sure that you understand the art inside and out. I run a fitness and kickboxing facility myself (Fighting Fit Boot Camp & Austin Impact Jeet Kune Do) and I asked him to teach for us one night a week if he could. He runs his kickboxing program independent of our programs, meaning I don't pay him anything. He has his own course going. And if you want to try it out, he offers a free class. He's very safety conscious, which is important to me. And he knows his stuff. And best of all, he has that sort of quirky personality that you either love or hate. Either way, the classes are never dull. You'll find yourself training harder than you've ever trained and having fun the whole time.
