More About Coach Shawna

I am a USAT Certified Triathlon Coach that coaches other athletes from beginner to the elite level in all disciplines of the sport including strength training. I work with athletes from as young as 5 years of age to mature individuals. My ability to compete in the sport of triathlon at an elite level allows me to relate to the athlete and what they need to prepare for physically and mentally. I have competed in World's at the Olympic distance in addition to qualifying for the World Championships at the Half Ironman distance in the past 3 consecutive years. My reward is seeing others challenge themselves and expand beyond their comfort zone. I am here to take the athlete to the next level.

I was scouted and played Collegiate level volleyball and earned the female athlete of the year award in my second year of College. I currently compete in triathlon at an elite level: in 2014 i competed in ITU Worlds at the Olympic Distance in addition to the Ironman World's 70.3 event. I am currently ranked 2nd in Canada and 13th worldwide in the Ironman rankings.

The first meeting with my clients is focused on their expectations and goals and their overall plan is structured around these with health being number one. Function and ability come first, then skill and technique last. In triathlon co-ordination and balance are required in all disciplines so i tend to focus on a lot of agility and core work. When it comes to developing the athlete you must develop them aerobically in addition to anaerobically. I recommend more mature athletes train by heart rate and/or power on the bike for more accurate and optimal training. My coaching style can adapt to any type of athlete whether they are recreational or competitive.
