More About Coach Seth

I have over 10 years experience coaching athletes of all ages and ability groups. I first began working focus-mitts and learning optimal boxing training techniques in the Army. It is there that I helped friends compete regionally, and for the annual 82nd All-American Week boxing competitions. After being honorably discharged from the United States Army I embarked on my journey to earn my B.S. in Physical Education from the University of SC. It is there that I began really taking my passion for wellness and fitness to the next level as my content knowledge expanded. I began refining my abilities as a boxing specialist. I worked tirelessly to train friends, acquaintances, and people interested in improving their physical appearance and confidence through self-discipline and cutting edge training techniques. I have worked with youth and adults ranging in age from 9-54. I have excellent communication skills, a teaching approach that is motivating and stimulating, and content knowledge that can tailor fit to the individual needs of my clients.

Coming from a household where my father was a collegiate Track and Field/Cross Country coach during my youth made competition a part of life at an early age. By age 15 I was an All-Region pole-vaulter in the state of SC, and by my senior year I was a 4 sport varsity letterman for my high-school (Track, Cross Country, Wrestling, and Football). I carried that athletic spirit with me as I joined the United States Army as a Calvary Scout (19 D). A huge part of the Airborne Unit I was attached to was our dedication to physical fitness as a component to readiness. During my 3 years of active-duty I never scored under the perfect 300 score, and during the years of the extended scale I put up a PR of 322 by completing in 88 pushups (in 2 min), 90 situps (in 2 min), and running a 12:00 two-mile run. In the Army I competed in 2 All-American Week events, competing primarily in Football while helping train for boxing. In college I competed in almost every intramural sport offered at the University of SC (Indoor/Sand Volleyball, DodgeBall, Football, Soccer, and Ultimate Frisbee), winning two intramural championships during my time. Since graduating I have taught Physical Education and continued training people; including students, to box. I have run multiple mud-runs, 5-10k's, and done some minor fitness events. My primary focus now being solely on training.

After initial consultation where goals are established and needs are identified I go right into the work. I always write out my workout for the day, and share with the client what we will be doing using the F.I.T.T. Principle. As sessions go on we use data from previous sessions to increase our numbers. As a session begins I always begin with a short warm-up followed by a 10-15 minute dynamic stretch for the sake of preparing the body as well as injury prevention. Every client and student typically enjoys the exercises and variability I include in that portion. Once the body is warm and loose we begin to get into the workzone. With boxing I like to have the hands wrapped before we even do the warm-up and dynamic stretching, so that we can go straight into focus-mitts. I like to work focus-mitts early and often, and I always build upon prior sessions; each time increasing the intensity via time or effort through anaerobic bursts. There is a range of things to work on with focus-mitts, including but not limited to: stance, combinations, defensive technique, and hand speed. After 10-15 minutes I usually cap off the mitts with some Tabata rounds to increase explosive output and cardiovascular endurance. After focus-mitts it is time to do some intense focus on building power with the heavy-bag. We mix rounds of alternating between combinations and raw power. Each session we document and alter intensity and type of work, and always do a good job and documenting and monitoring HR during our breaks to ensure we are working in the proper Target HR Zones for optimal performance outcomes. I like to end in various ways depending on needs, but one of my personal favorites is using Tabata rounds for Jump-Rope and Abdominal exercises. It is a moment where the body is fatigued, but it is where people find they can dig a little deeper. I love seeing my clients push it to new places, and it inspires me as their coach. I always finish each workout with a cool-down and proper stretching. I incorporate a lot of yoga, and each week will usually come up with a 7-10 exercise routine that we hold for 20-30 seconds each pose.

Client Reviews

My 9yr old had a great training session with coach Seth. He was very down to earth, enthusiastic, and kept my son motivated the entire session. In 1hr I could see my son's skill level and confidence grow. Looking forward to our next session. Thanks coach!!

Great Trainer !

If you are looking for a high-energy/intense workout you have come to the right guy! Seth is extremely passionate about what he does, and it is evident through his work with clients. I have personally watched him train others, trained with him myself, and have seen him teach physical education classes over the course of 5 years. Frankly he is a healthy professional in every sense of the word, with the motivational skills to make you work harder than you ever thought you could. Seth's feedback and reinforcement is encouraging and genuine. He is a go-getter who is always at 100%! The rhythm and energy Seth puts off is captivating, and the preparation behind the scenes is what separates him as a instructor/teacher/coach!
I started boxing with Seth 3-4 times a week for two years in college. After the first session I realized this boxing style of workout is on a different level of fitness than your standard weight training/fitness training. Seth always kept it intense and exciting with new drills, and encouraged me as I progressed week to week. Over the course of two years I developed a vast increase in core strength, cardiovascular endurance, and most importantly boxing technique. Seth is a great teacher and motivator. He will push your body to new limits and motivate you the whole way.
