More About Coach Sasha

I began gymnastics at the age of three and began competing at age seven in level 5. By age twelve I was in level 8. Unfortunately, shortly after reaching level 8 my gym closed and I decided not to travel the distance to a new gym. My passion for the sport has never left, though!

I currently coach JO 1-4 gymnasts, as well all preschool and recreation level classes. I have coached gymnastics for a total of six years, three of which were at the competitive level. I enjoy working with athletes of every age.

Body position is very important--knowing where your body is in space and being able to use the correct muscles to do simple positions correctly that are used consistently in every level. With that said, I think it is
important to keep a portion of any length session dedicated to form and strength. A 1-2 hour session is recommended, which will include warm-up, stretching, strength and skills. The first session will include all of these parts and will also be used as an assessment of the athlete's skill level. Depending on what skill level you currently perform, I like to cover a lot of ground, by working on handstands, cartwheels, round-offs, rolls, turns, leaps, jumps, beam drills, bar drills, and vault drills. I also like to work on skills for front and back handsprings, front and back tucks if you are at that level. Of course, I would not focus on all of these skills for one session, but will plan them out according to the number of sessions and time available.
