More About Coach Ryan
I have been a part of 8 soccer camps for kids when I was in college. These were community outreach programs in Fayette Iowa to help grow the brand of soccer there as a student athlete. The first 4 I was merely a coach for the kids and then the last 4 I acquired more of an administrator role for the camp.
I was a referee and assistant coach from age 12-18 for a ranging age group of about 8-14 year olds. Most of the coaching experience for me was as an assistant coach for my younger brothers soccer team while he was going through that age range of 8-14 and then minor involvement helping out a junior varsity team.
As a player I played 4 years of varsity in high school attaining multiple local awards there. My achievements there got me a scholarship to a NCAA D2 school in Upper Iowa University where I was a 4 year starting striker. There I received multiple first team and second team designations for best players in the conference. We won the NCAA Div 2 MIAA conference championship my junior year which was amazing! And then I was recognized there as a top scholar student athlete and recruited to study abroad in England and attain a masters degree and play on the university team in Bournemouth University is England. Professional Development League summer teams included the Orange County Blues and the West Virginia Chaos.
A typical session may look like:
10 min warmup
10 min agility footwork with cones/ladder
15 min dribbling drills emphasizing a lot of touches with the ball to gain ball control
10 min passing and receiving the ball, improving first touch and turns
Final 15 minutes include fitness/shooting/defending. Pretty much whatever the trainee wants to improve on that day.
