More About Coach Richard

I have been privately coaching for the last 8 years. I have extensive experience working with youth athletes, adults and elite runners. I am currently the Director & Co-Head Coach for Striders Track Club in the Pasadena. All of the athletes I’ve worked with have improved their personal bests, and I’ve developed them into overall better athletes. My most successful elite athlete has qualified for many major races in the US, and most recently the 2018 USA Track & Field Championships. I specialize in middle to long distance running, and have experience with sprints as well. I have a BS in Kinesiology, focusing on Exercise & Human Performance. I am CPR certified, and am currently working on my USATF coaching certification.

I’ve been running competitively for the past 15 years. I competed throughout high school, then continued in college. I competed for Pasadena City College, and placed 4th in the 1500m at the CCCAA(State meet) while there. I received a scholarship to compete at Adams State University in Colorado. During my time there we won 2012 NCAA D2 Cross-Country Nationals. After college, I continued to compete competitively with the goal of qualifying for the USATF Championships. My current prs are 800 - 1:53, 1500 - 3:50, MILE(road) - 4:03, 3 MILE - 14:16, Half Marathon - 1:10

Every session is tailored to an individual’s needs. A typical training session includes a warm-up and cool-down, with the majority of the workout consisting of a mixture of the following: intervals, threshold run, long run, speed work, plyometrics, strength routine and speed development exercise. It all depends on what each athlete is looking to improve on.

Client Reviews

Daughter really enjoyed her session. Coach Richard pushed her and gave her an outstanding lesson, all while being very motivating and encouraging. Daughter already a very good athlete, but with Coach Richard can see her reaching her goals and new PRs. Coach Richard was down to earth and really knew how to communicate with our 10 year old. She is excited to go back!

Worked well with my 6yr old and encouraged him AND me to keep trying and keep at it. He gave me some great advice on training him at home.He was a bit injured for the training but towards the end he couldnt help himself and was running alongside my son. Thanks Coach

My boys really enjoyed their session with Richard and are looking forward to their next time.

Coach Richard has been awesome! My daughter feels very comfortable working with him. She actually looks forward to her weekend sessions and it has been the breakthrough in getting her to run 7 days a week. Coach Richard is easy going and relates well to my daughter and her abilities. He challenges her and has introduced new exercises to strengthen her. We are looking forward to her first cross country meet this season and watching her times really come down. Coach Richard has been a great supplement to her high school coach and gives her a fresh perspective on running.

I think my son will learn a lot from Richard and should eventually improve his record and maybe win some medals. We are looking forward to more training schedules with coach.

Coach Richard is a very knowledgeable coach. He pays attention to detail and great at developing your strengths. He has been my coach for the last several of years, and has helped become a national caliber middle-distance runner.
