More About Coach Philip
- I'm currently working for the New York Red Bulls as a developmental coach. I am responsible for setting up training sessions, coaching the games and develop my players to become the best soccer players possible.
- I have been working with boys and girls between the ages of 12-14 at camps for six summers back in Sweden. These camps provide players with training sessions twice a day, plus two to three games per week. I was responsible for organizing each session and making sure the players learned the fundamentals of soccer.
- I volunteered as an assistant coach with the University at Albany Men's Soccer team, which is a division 1 collegiate team. I assisted in individual player development in terms of 1 on 1 sessions. I assisted the head coach in running team sessions, as well as special sessions for the goal keepers. During games, I charted various topics such as second balls won, fouls committed or shots on goal, on the head coach's behalf.
- I played academy soccer for a team in Sweden, where I also trained with the first team in the Swedish Premiere League.
- I was selected to train with the U-16 national team in one of their larger pools of players.
- I played division 1 collegiate soccer at University at Albany, where I served as co-captain for two years. My senior year, I was selected to the first all-conference team. I also received the award as the teams' MVP for the same season.
Let's say I would want my client to train first touch and passing.
- I would make sure the client is properly warmed up before the session starts, with some simple jogging, incorporating dynamic movements into the jogging.
- Once he/she is starting to get warm, I would include some receiving and passing movements into the warm-up.
- After that, I'd progress into some more challenging drills. These drills could include longer range passing, working on the first touch out of the air, passing with both feet on various sides of the foot (inside passing, top of the foot, etc.)
- Depending on time left of the session or intensity of the client, I would finish with a challenge or competition, where the client can use the techniques and skills they've learned throughout the session (or during possible previous sessions).
