Pat served as my Head Coach during my playing years from 2007-2014 (a position he still holds). Pat's ability to bring the best out of a diverse player pool was never more evident than during that period. Our first incarnation of the team was a large plodding bunch with very little rugby experience. Pat was able to mold that team into a highly structured and extremely physical pack-centric team that climbed from the middle-bottom of New Jersey D2 into an eventual Division 1 national tournament participant. As the team morphed into a younger, more athletic group, Pat once again adapted his philosophies, taking the best pieces of our team's foundation (structure, simplicity) and adding in some devastating offensive wrinkles that turned Monmouth into a high scoring, perpetual Geographical Union finalist, and eventually D2 champion and National Sweet 16 participant. One of Pat's greatest assets is his ability to analyze players individually. He will give players a specific development path, and make the player accountable for putting in the time to reap the rewards of the plan. On my side, Pat recognized my leadership talents as exceeding my athletic ability and was instrumental in transforming me from an undersized scrum half into a player that could help the team win through vision, foresight and leadership. Myself and my teammates will forever be thankful to Pat for turning a group of Jersey football players and wrestlers into a national level rugby team. Off the field, while serving as Monmouth Rugby Club President, Pat in his capacity as coach was a trusted advisor and colleague. He taught us how a performance rugby club should be structured in an all-encompassing fashion (rugby, fundraising, leadership, marketing, social) and was someone the Club can always count on with sound advice and a great idea. Pat has become such an asset that the newly created Director of Rugby position within the Club was a position that we in the Club's leadership envisioned would be for him at its inception and he has met the call.

Pat is the Head Rugby Coach for the Monmouth Rugby Club, of which I am a member. Pat’s coaching, mentoring, and organizational skills Pat has elevated the club’s status into a Division 1 club that can adapt to any playing style, taking advantage of the athletic abilities he’s given to deal with. Pat’s professional approach to coaching is a driving force in the success of the club, on and off the pitch. In early 2010, Pat began a rugby program from scratch at CBA High School in Lincroft, NJ. In addition to its tremendous academic qualities, CBA is known for having a very strong athletic program. CBA sports teams are typically at the top in every sport. Pat systematically road mapped a path for rugby, and then assembled the people necessary to make it work. Pat was so successful in building the sport of rugby at CBA, that the team was given Varsity status. In addition, Pat led the program to a NJ State Rugby Championship in CBA’s inaugural season of varsity competition. Pat Moroney has a passion for rugby and backs this passion up with a superior technical knowledge of the game. Truly great coaches are teachers of their sport, and Pat has the ability to transform his knowledge into the actions of his players. The results are evident by the successes of his teams. As the Program Director for GoPlay Tours I worked with Pat Moroney to develop an overseas trip for CBA Rugby , one of the teams he coaches. Pat approached GoPlay to organize a 10-day trip for 30+ people to Ireland. The planning and implementation of international trips of this nature ordinarily takes a year – Pat pulled it off in just 2 months. During the trip itself I saw firsthand how Pat’s organizational and communications skills made this possible.
