More About Coach Pam

I have a few years combined training athletes ranging from 6 -18 years old. I did private lessons on the side while Active Duty Military in Texas and Cape Cod, MA. I enjoy Coaching the little ones but my passion is the middle school/high school kids. I do not have any industry certifications at this time however I do have over 20 years experience and knowledge about the Fastpitch softball.

2015: Inducted into the Roy Miller High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

Overview:
During her Senior Year of High School, Barragan was recruited by 2005 National Fastpitch Coaches Association Hall of Fame Inductee Coach Yvette Girouard (University of Louisiana-Lafayette/LSU) and also from the University of Texas at Austin, Coach Connie Clark.
She was offered scholarships for both Universities respectively but signed on with the Lady Cajuns in 2000, just a few days after Coach Girouard signed on to Coach at LSU. Barragan trained with former Head Coach Stefni Lotief and now current Head Softball Coach Michael Lotief while at UL. They are among the top Coaches Division 1 softball has seen with over 601 wins in 12 seasons prior to Coach Stefs retirement in 2012. Barragan played against many Olympians such as Jennie Finch and Lovieanne Jung just to name a few and against legendary Coaches such as Coach Girouard, Patty Gasso and the legendary Mike Candrea. Memorable Collegiate highlight: Among Lady Cajun Softball Team that set now previous attendance record on April 18, 2001, when 1,729 managed to pack into the facility as Louisiana hosted in-state rival LSU in a doubleheader. The two nationally-ranked programs split the doubleheader, as fans lined the fences for the Louisiana intercollegiate softball attendance record. High School: A 2 time First Team All-State Catcher for the Miller Buccaneers. Became the starting catcher for the Varsity Team as a Freshman.
Senior year in HIgh School assisted the Lady Buccaneers in hitting, with a .487 average, 10 doubles, five triples, one home run and 40 RBI.
Junior Year had a .609 batting average with 10 doubles, three triples, five homers and 52 RBI.
Was also the first girl in the Corpus Christi Independent School District to hit a home run over the fence at the new Cabaniss Softball Complex.

I want the kids and also the parents to get a good feel for my Coaching styles with a sense of ease knowing that if it's something they don't feel will suite them, then they aren't out of any money. There's nothing worse than going to clinics or camps and feeling like you've just been taught things that might be above or below your level. I've been there. First thing I focus on is safety of my athletes ranging from their gear to their throwing hand when receiving a pitch. I do focus primarily on stance, squat position, foot placement, shoulder angles, where you stand when you've got a play at the plate, how to read the runners and most of all how to take care of your pitcher. Catchers need just as much endurance as pitcher so I like my catchers to really build there endurance with long distance running and wind sprints for explosive movements for base running and even behind the plate. We'll start off with a lap around the field, dynamic stretching and then they'll grab their shin guards and get ready to warm up. I like my catchers to start off simple and then eventually get to long toss that way they get a good full range of motion going along with a great warm up. I'll then line them up on the infield and start with blocking (no balls). This way I can get a good feel for where everyone is at. I'll then pair them up and one by one each group will go with me behind the plate while the others are starting blocking drills. It's pretty basic the first session and then we get into the fundamentals and throwing. After all is said and done, we start with foot placement behind the plate, blocking runners for plays at the plate and run downs or in our jargon "pickle"! It's fun it's great and most importantly they'll get to implement what they learn in real life game play.

Client Reviews

My daughter loved the lesson and was very excited about what she learned!

Coach Pam has done a very good job relating to Alex and developing her skills.

Holy cow, Coach Pam knows her stuff! She started with having a one-on-one conversation with my daughter, talking about her and just getting an idea about how she feels about softball and being a catcher. Once she felt Breanna out she knew exactly what to focus on. She gave Breanna verbal tips before we even had our first practice that showed major improvement in Breanna's catching style. During normal practice she is encouraging, but realistic and had drills that worked on her stance, catching the ball and long throws. Bre loves her so much and can't wait until her next practice!

Pam Barragan has extensive experience as both a great Softball player and Coach. She understands the specific training required to elevate the average Softball player into someone special. Her training will exceed all of your expectations give your daughter the confidence and satisfaction she's been searching for"-Mark Medina (Calallen High School Softball Coach, Corpus Chiristi, TX.)
