Employment History

Arizona Soccer Club Director of Coaching (DOC) 2016 – to date. Here I am responsible for the player development of players from 6-14 years of age. I have designed and implemented a curriculum and corresponding session plans which all feed in to the Game Model which is based on Juego de Posicion, Rondos, Technical excellence and dominance of the 1v1 scenarios (Coerver type activities).

Part of my responsibilities are to ensure that the coaches also receive professional development and continuing support so that they may provide the players with an excellent learning environment in which to develop and grow. This means that I provide continual coach education sessions as well as session evaluations.

The club did not run its own camps before my arrival which is one of the first things I changed. I now have implemented 5 camps as well as a residential preseason camp. These serve to both bolster the skills, techniques and tactical ability of the players in the club as well as providing a nice revenue stream for the club.

Examples of the camps that I have implemented and deliver:

FC Arizona Head Goal Keeper Coach, 2018 – to date
Here I am responsible for the Goal Keeper program for the professional team, ensuring quality of training and selection and preparing the goal keepers to best serve the professional team on the weekend.

FC Bayern All Access Technical Visit, 2018
I was allowed to shadow and observe all of their coaches from Woman’s 1st team, Academy and Men’s 1st team to learn from their best practices and apply this to my own club.

Arizona State Olympic Development Program (ODP) 2016.
I am involved in coaching with the ODP teams in Arizona and have been lucky enough to work with this talented group of young players since my arrival in Arizona.

New York Red Bulls Youth Coach, 2013 - 2016. Below is an outline of some of the aspects of my time with Red Bulls;
Youth Programs - I was responsible for designing, running and implementing soccer programs for youth players within the Red Bulls Training Program. The programs covered the four pillars of the game, tactical, technical, psycho-social and physical and are designed with the needs of the particular team in mind, in order to provide them with a rounded and progressive frame work in which to develop. The Training Programs consists of;
Mini Kick
Travel Soccer Teams (ranging from U8 to U16)
Skills Clinics
Camps (residential and day) during Summer & Winter.
Futsal (across the Winter months)
Special Needs Players

Senior Coach - On top of my normal duties and responsibilities, I was expected to take the lead role in various Camps, Training Clinics and Skills Clinics etc. There were many members of Red Bulls coaching staff present at these events, but I would be responsible for making sure that they were all performing their coaching duties to an exemplary level and that everything was running smoothly, according to plan and in line with the Red Bull’s overarching philosophies. I was also responsible for compiling and demonstrating the coaching material for these sessions.
Red Bulls Youth Academy - I worked with the Academy with respect to video recordings of game day performances. I was responsible for game-day filming of the academy teams. I also shadowed the U16, U18 and U23 coaches, which helped me develop as a coach immeasurably by watching such experts give instruction to elite level players and has provided me with great insight into the elite level of youth soccer in the U.S. which has in turn inspired me within my own training sessions. Both this and the Training Programs have provided me with invaluable experience which I use and will continue to use in the future. I also shadowed the U12, U16 & U18 academy coaches 5 times per week during practice sessions and assist them with these if necessary.
Red Bulls RDS (Pre Academy Team) - I was a coach for both goal keepers and field players within the RDS program, delivering higher level curriculum session to the best players at pre-academy age in New York and New Jersey. As well as this I was the senior coach on RDS residential summer camps, responsible for all of the players, the coaches and the management of the facility.
Red Bulls Marketing - As part of my role I was responsible for trying to generate revenue for Red Bulls by recruiting teams within the clubs that I work for to sign up to camps and clinics etc.

Ironbound Tigers & Impact U16 Coach, Newark (volunteer) 2013 – 2016. Outside of Red Bulls I coached two U16 teams in Newark for the Ironbound Club, the A & B teams, which effectively form one big squad of players. The Tigers have a partnership with the Red Bulls Club and have placed 5 players into the U16 Academy try outs at Red Bulls in the 2014/15 season alone which is a great testament to the level, talent and dedication of the team as a whole.

New Jersey City University Men’s Team Assistant Coach 2013 - 2015. I was the assistant coach for NJCU Men’s team. I was responsible for assisting in all aspects of the program including elements of recruitment.

NSCAA Staff Instructor 2013 - to date. After receiving the maximum grades available on my NSCAA Premier Diploma, I was invited back to become a State instructor. Essentially, I deliver the NSCAA course, levels 1 through 6. I work with aspiring coaches in order to enhance their knowledge and education in the world of youth soccer. ‘Coach Educator’ may be a better title than Staff Instructor.

ODP (Olympic Development Program) 2013 – 2015. The NJ ODP requested assistance from Red Bulls and asked for coaches to run their boys sessions. This was my main role with the ODP but I also assisted with try outs for the girl’s side of things in Jersey.

Staten Island United (NYCFC Affiliate) Camp and Youth Training Program Coordinator, 2013 – to 2016. I ran two youth teams in all aspects, from training to game day management, but my main role is in the organisation and preparation of the youth training programs, U5 to U18 boys and girls.

Soccer Journal Contributor 2015 – to date. I have published academic articles on the subject of coaching, sports psychology and player development to the NSCAA publication Soccer Journal

Youth Coach of Okayama FC in Japan 2007 to 2008 (year abroad).

Assistant Coach of Southampton University Ladies Football Team 1998 to 2002.
Employment History outside of Soccer

Owner, Globatel Protect Insurance, Farnham, England 2009 – 2014. I started and ran an insurance company, taking it to around 25 employees. I left there in order to be with my wife in her home town of Brooklyn.

English Teacher & School Manager, Nova, Tokyo, 2007 – 2008. I taught English in Tokyo for two years to people of all ages, ranging from 3 years old up to people in their 90s.

Stevens & Bolton, Guildford, Surrey, England, 2003 – 2009. I worked as a tax lawyer in house for the biggest law firm in the South East of England.

Reference: Sam Snow, Director of Coaching for US Youth Soccer ssnow@usyouthsoccer.org

I played for Southampton University 1998-2002. Here I was a team player for four years before graduating and going back to playing club soccer.

The session plans are completely bespoke as to the needs of the player. Session plans can be entirely dictated by the player or parent or we can discuss the needs and demands of the player and I can put together a session plan and seasonal development plan to take this into account.
