More About Coach Oscar

I currently coach at West L.A. COLLEGE. I play slow pitch softball and help coach individuals to improve their game. I also have several certificates through(NFHS) National Federation High School and CIF. Plus I'm constantly reviewing updates on rules changes and training techniques. I have had players go on to college with an athletic scholarship and earn league honors with city or conference awards. I was also an umpire at most levels of softball and baseball through J. D. Lambright and Diamond Kings umpiring. I know what most umpires look for with strike zones and that helps batters understand through my instruction on where the outside, inside and middle of the plate pitches are at. This is one reason why my teams are above the national average for batting average, slugging pct.,home runs and on base percentage.

Played Varsity football, basketball and baseball at John Marshall high school. Played 2B for Citrus College and drafted by Montreal Expos then traded to Tampa Bay Rays and was in their farm system for several years. I was drafted and played for the New England SEA WOLVES Arena Football team before a shoulder injury cut my career(ouch). As a coach, turning a varsity softball program that was 5-51 for a decade and I won 7 games my first year. Every where I have been to I have changed the culture and succeeded in producing not just competitive teams but also winning teams. I take into consideration that preparedness, dedication, focus and determination can lead to fantastic results.

I speak with athlete for several minutes and ask about athletic background and experience. This allows me to use drills and techniques that are vital to the athlete for building overall growth and development. I work with infielders, outfielders, catchers and sometimes pitchers. I also do batting lessons as well. I check out their batting stance, bat grip and follow through. I work with lefties on slap hitting and bunting. I use an aggressive but discipline style of hitting. I use a unique form of collegiate style blended with high school method of teaching. Your athlete will be better than when they started. Whether it be slow pitch or fast pitch I can help out.

Client Reviews

Nice person very patient.

Coach Oscar was great. He was patient and attentive. He truly cares about the improvement of his players. I would recommend him to anyone.

My 11-year old likes him.

Coach Oscar has been great! We've completed 3 sessions and are planning more over the holiday school break in preparation for high school tryouts. Coach is well organized, prepared, and demonstrates a genuine interest in my daughter's development. We are working on all aspects of the game; hitting, fielding, throwing and conditioning. Highly recommended!

Came very VERY prepared with all the equipment, great communication and flexibility, certainly aim to book more sessions.
