More About Coach Oscar

Hey there!

I've always had a passion for the game of soccer and whenever there has been a possibility to teach developing youth, I'm one of the first ones to put my foot forward. My experience with coaching has been at soccer camps for the University I played for, in which I coached 6-14 year olds for 4 years. I have also worked with the local select teams from my area (Northwest United Soccer Club, Whatcom Rangers), running trainings and also personal trainings. My most recent coaching experience came last year when I was an assistant coach for the university I played at (Western Washington University). I don't have any certifications for coaching but I feel that I have a lot of knowledge of the game because of the quality of coaches I've had through the years and because I'm always learning.

I have played soccer since I was 8 years old, playing in recreational leagues then moving up to the select team from my hometown. Played 4 years of Varsity in high school, and after that I landed a full scholarship to play soccer for Western Washington University, an NCAA Division II school in Bellingham WA. During my years there, I was team captain my senior year and also finished my career with 2 years as First Team All Conference honors and 1 year as Second Team All Conference. I also tied the school record for most career assists.

After playing at the collegiate level, I spent 2 summers playing with the Seattle Sounders U-23 squad in the PDL, and 1 winter playing professional indoor with the Tacoma Stars. I also spent a week in Mexico, training with Chivas de Guadalajara of Liga MX.

2015 - played professionally for the Tulsa Roughnecks FC of the United Soccer League.
2016 - played for Mississippi Brilla FC of the PDL

Currently, I'm on Louisville City FC, which is in the Eastern Conference of the United Soccer League.

Well, first thing would be to speak to the client or clients parent if he/she is young and ask what it is he/she is looking to improve on and that would make me plan accordingly. Whatever it is the client needs improvement, I feel like getting the most touches on the soccer ball with proper technique is most beneficial. My session would run about an hour and would be focused on technique but in a fun way. Warming up and ball work would be the first thing we would jump into and then focus on keeping mentally strong on technique when our body and minds are tired. If I was able to find a wall somewhere to pass a ball against that would be the best, that's how you really get all those necessary touches. Speed work, agility, and balance would all go into the training session, along with learning how to use your own body to shield the ball.
