More About Coach Mo

I am a former college athlete (soccer goalkeeper) who's now been coaching for over seven years. I decided to forgo my last year of playing and started coaching while still in college. My first head coaching job was at Alonzo & Tracy Mourning Senior High in Miami in 2012. During the same time, I was an assistant coach to Coach Eric Dobrzanski, the head women's soccer coach at Johnson & Wales University. I also had the pleasure of helping Tom Torres, the U18 Coach of Major League Soccer's DC United with his training sessions while I was interning there. I also worked at a club called Premier AC under the mentorship of Coach Sully Hamid (father and coach of American International Bill Hamid) where I coached different age groups (U10,U13 and U15). I hold a United States Soccer Federation D license.

I started my college career at Louisburg College, one of the very best junior colleges (and current national champions) in the nation. During my time there, we reached the national championship tournament and were only defeated by Tyler Junior College, another junior college powerhouse. I then transferred to Johnson & Wales University where I captained the team and led the Sun Conference in saves during the 2012 season before deciding to hang my boots when offered a High School head coaching job. During my two years at Alonzo & Tracy Mourning Senior High, we reached respectively the semi-finals and final of the district, both times a school best performance.

The first thing i do when working with a client is to first do an assessment (know their position, strengths and weaknesses etc....). During the first couple of sessions, I also try to see what kind of person they are so I know what approach to use with them. Some kids respond when you yell at them, others lose their confidence when you do so. I develop drills based on the athlete i am working with. I believe that the biggest mistake so many coaches make is to have one set of drills for all their players. Players are different and a coach should never ignore the specificity of an athlete
