That was the role she was meant to be in, and once she bought into it and knew what it was, I knew it would make her successful. “The thing about her is if she doesn’t get on base, she will instantly come to you and say ‘OK, what do I need to do?’ or ‘Coach, I think I’m going to try this this time; what do you think?’ She hides a lot of emotion. Never did I see one of her at-bats or plays in the outfield affect another at-bat or play, and that’s hard to do because people tend to dwell on the negative. She’ll be hard to replace next year.”“Mo has a maturity level most kids her age don’t have,” the coach said. “She has a lot of life experiences and maybe has grown up faster than she should have. That doesn’t mean she can’t go out and have fun and be silly. But she’s very in-tune of when it’s appropriate, and almost selfish to the point where she does what she needs to do. She’s really good about saying no. I’ve been coaching at this level for 10 years and only a few players ‘get it’ like she does – how to be a good person, to have fun but be dedicated and work hard, and understand what it means to be a good, productive member of society. When she’s silly, it makes you really admire then other side of her so much more. She’ll also give everything she has to help somebody else, too. But she is a self-made person, and I so admire that about her.
