More About Coach Michael

I am a former professional soccer player with 6 years experience in the first division (MLS and Liga MX).

I have been conducting private coaching sessions for 8 years now and have previously coached for over 3 years at Olympic Development Program (ODP) camps in Southern California.

Professional Career:
-6 years playing experience in Major League Soccer and Liga MX (Mexico's first division)
-2016 MLS Cup Champion with Seattle Sounders FC.
-Played one year for DC United.
-Played one year for Cruz Azul FC of Liga MX in Mexico.
-Selected to represent the Philadelphia Union in Major League Soccer's 2012 All-Star Game at PPL Park.
-Selected #23 overall in the 2011 MLS SuperDraft by the Philadelphia Union…Named MLS Rookie of the year finalist, finishing third in voting

NCAA:
-I enrolled at California State University, Fullerton and spent 2 seasons playing in the Big West Conference. I than transferred to UNC Chapel Hill in hopes of gaining more exposure to Professional scouts, as well as a higher level of competition.
-At UNC: Twice named NSCAA First Team All-American, College Soccer News All American and NSCAA First Team All-Region. Was two-time member of First Team All-ACC and ACC All-Tournament Team. MAC Hermann Semifinalist
-At Cal State Fullerton: Two-time first-team All-Big West midfielder... Claimed the league's Freshman of the Year Award in 2006 and was a freshman All-America pick by Soccer America, College Soccer News and Top Drawer Soccer ... Also named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Far West second team in 2006-07

Youth:
-At 15 years old, I was invited to be a part of the US under 17 National Team at the IMG academy in Florida.
-After spending 2 years in Florida, I had the honor of representing the USA in the U17 World Cup in Peru (2005)
-Grew up playing soccer in Southern California

I like to start athletes out with a 10-15 minute warmup. I then focus on teaching athletes certain moves and/or drills based on the areas they're looking to improve in. For example, if I'm teaching a player a certain offensive move, we'll focus on learning the move with one foot and then learn the same move with the non-dominant foot as well. It is very important for soccer players to be adept at using both feet extremely well. Everything I teach is at a high intensity to promote the player to play at game speed. I enjoy incorporating exercises that will emulate game like situations and prepare the player as much as possible to excel on game day.

Client Reviews

Michael has been a great coach with my son. He has trained him a couple of sessions now and is really focused on helping him in the areas that my son wants to focus on while making the training session fun as well very organized.

Great coach! Michael is very professional, has a good training plan, and very down to earth. My son is young and can get bored in long 1:1 sessions, but he enjoyed every minute with Michael. He loved the drills. He is so pumped up and looking forward to the next session. We are grateful that Michael is available as a coach and as a role model.

Michael is a great coach. He has been very instrumental is helping my son enhance his current skill set but also develop new skills through positive motivation. Michael has a heart of gold and a coaching style to match. If you pass on him as a coach, then you must want to settle for second best.

Your really great to work with and I had a great time! I loved the drills that you did. They had challenged me to be very precise and I liked that. I hope to have more sessions with you. Thank-you!

My daughter has had numerous training sessions with Coach Michael. She enjoyed every one. Coach Michael is a great coach and each drill he does is fun but challenging for her. My daughter always looked forward to her next session. Coach Michael is a very technical and skilled player and has helped with her confidence and technique on the ball. To this day Coach Michael is her role model. If you want a great coach, I highly recommend Coach Michael. The experience was great and one my daughter will never forget.
