More About Coach Melissa

I have coached players from the beginner level to the collegiate level. I have worked at high schools in the LA area and my alma matter, Occidental College a few years after I graduated as a scholar-athlete. I work with all ages perfecting foundational skillsand mechanics. Worked several ID Camps, Soccer Camps, Clinics. Coaching since 2008. Currently the Mesa College Goalkeeping Coach.

In high school I attended UC High in San Diego. We won CIF two years in a row, I was named all league & MVP.

At Occidental College I was the starting goalkeeper from 2005-2008. I was awarded MVP several years as a captain. I had the honor of being named an All-SCIAC Player during those years and "All-American Far West" in my third season.

I tailor each session plan directly to the goals of the player. But all sessions generally include:
- comprehensive warm-up
- body control (typically during warm up)
- foundations
- ball control/skill work
- an aspect of fitness on the ball
- specific goal/focus of the day (shooting/foot skills/dribbling/mechanics (running or shooting) etc)
- plenty of feedback and opportunity for questions and explanation
- homework and thought work for the next session

Client Reviews

Melissa was great. We worked with her with a friend and she was great with the boys.

Coach Melissa was great. My daughter was so energized and confident, I could see her making small improvement even in the first session. It seemed like Melissa really knew how to communicate and share just what was needed to improve. I highly recommend her.

Coach Melissa is great with my son. She is always positive and he is having fun while learning to improve his soccer skills.

Coach Melissa is a great coach, my 12 year old daughter likes her and was able to understand and grasp what Coach was teaching her. Coach Melissa listened to my daughters concerns (mine as a parent too) and was able to give feedback on what she should work on. Really a great overall experience, thank you so much Coach Melissa :)

Coach Melissa did a great job in the first session, watching and working with my daughter on her kicking. She is very in tune with what my daughter needs to work on.

Melissa has done a great job with my two girls through the first four sessions. We are focusing on goalkeeper skills with one girl and touches with both girls and the training has been excellent. The girls love how Melissa is demanding yet fun and as a coach myself, I have found drills/activities that I can take back to my team.

Coach Melissa made the first training session fun for my daughter and showed her progress that helped boost her confidence even after one session. My daughter is excited to continue her training to see how much she can improve this summer.

Melissa Warner is a friendly and knowledgeable trainer that focuses her lessons on the needs of the individual. She leads by example, improving overall fitness and technical skills while boosting self-confidence needed for serious competitive soccer. Our kids love training with her, and often attribute their most proud moments and in-game successes to her teachings. For anyone wanting to improve their technical skills, athleticism, and mental conditioning in order to take their competitive game to the next level, Warner Athletics is your answer.
My boys enjoy training with Melissa because she is so positive and enthusiastic, and the result is confidence and a skill level that adds value to the individual athlete as well as the team. She is able to work on many of the skills that team coaches don’t have time for in regular practice sessions; in particular agility, speed, quick feet, focus, and equal skill with both feet in passing, shooting, dribbling, and first touch. Her masters degree in Psychology shines in the way she combines intensity with brief periods of “goofing off” to get the most from a training session. Every training session is different. She genuinely cares for her students and they respond by working hard for her.
