More About Coach Matt
My name is Matt Lorimer and I am from Scotland in the United Kingdom. I have a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science and an MSc in Physical Therapy. I am Scottish Football Association level 3 qualified and have my US Soccer F license. I have experience of coaching youth soccer boys/girls from U5-U18s. I also have experience of working as a physical therapist/trainer for a professional youth soccer academy in Scotland. I provide the full spectrum of training for youth players to achieve their goals. key concepts include warm up, soccer specific training, functional anatomy physical training, nutrition, hydration, cool down and injury avoidance.
I played soccer at University level in Scotland for Strathclyde University and Robert Gordon University. I started as left full back before progressing to an attacking central midfield role. Post university I worked for 3 seasons as a physical therapist/trainer for Glasgow Rangers Football Club in Scotland. Whilst there I helped rehab and train various youth and professional players who continue to play in the Scottish/English Premiership.
U5-U12: My sessions focus on key skill concepts such as: control, passing, shooting, positional sense, attack and defence. In this stage of development we focus on fun and use of positive feedback.
U13-U18: during this phase my sessions will continue to focus on skill development however we will start to incorporate functional training (pre injury rehab/ladder work), warm up (Foam roller), nutrition, hydration, cool down and injury avoidance techniques.
