More About Coach Matthew
Hi everybody! I have been a coach at the high school level for seven years. Throughout this time, I have coached both girls and boys at this level. The interesting thing about coaching high school is the wide range of players who come through. From those just beginning their journey to some who are ready to play at an elite collegiate level after years of club. This experience allows me to work with players of any ability to help them grow. I have coached at schools in Sacramento, Antelope, and Las Vegas. My philosophy is to coach both the player and the person, helping them grow as an athlete and a member of society.
The majority of players I work with are 13-18 but all who love the game are welcome! I am looking forward to beginning
I have my USSF Grassroots license (E License) and I am currently finish my USSF D license this year.
I played soccer since the age of 5. I began club at 10 years of age. I originally played centerback for several years helping my team advance to multiple State Cup finals. When I reached high school, I played winger at both the club and high school level. At the end of my sophomore year, I transitioned to the striker position; the next two years I won the Offensive Player of the Year twice, All-League, and several other awards. I am most proud of leading my team to the first league title in my school's history.
After high school, I went on to play for Cal Lutheran (DIII) for four years while I earned my Bachelors in History Pedagogy on my way to becoming a high school social science teacher.
Sessions are individually tailored to the player's ability and ambitions. Through consultation, we will develop goals together based off my experience and recommendations. Each session will have an objective to help us reach our long-term goals. I'm a teacher by trade, creating lesson plans to reach intended goals is what I do every day!
