To keep tennis fun through the shared joy between students and teacher, for the love of the game.

Mark's Philosophy :

Confidence is a key component in the learning process. When a student has success no matter how big or small it should be acknowledged. Confidence leads to fun, fun leads to passion and passion leads to fulfillment and success.

I have been playing the game of tennis for 38 years.
I played in High School, Air Force Bases in Europe League Team , USTA Team League Tennis, Open and Mixed USTA Tournaments.

What to Expect at Your First Tennis Lesson
When you meet with a Professional Tennis Instructor for the first time, your experience should be fun, success oriented and educational for both you and the instructor. Your pro should ask you about your past experiences with tennis, other sports that you have played and what your goals you have with regard to learning the sport. Your instructor should give you some background on his or her teaching background as well.
When you choose to work with me on the court – these are just a few of the positive experiences you’ll get from your lesson!
On court assessment is one of the first tasks that I conduct when starting out with a new tennis student. Without giving any feedback or instruction, I will toss balls about 15 balls to my students from 10 to 15 feet away having them hit forehands. This gives me the opportunity to observe a few things about the students hand eye coordination and balance.
Racket and Grip Size : Discussion on grips follows the assessment phase. Almost immediately students will see improvement **success** from learning a new and proper way to hold their racket. Additionally, I check to see that the racket grip size is appropriate for the student.
Shoes: For the sake of safety, (which I am always concerned about while on the court). I always make sure that my students have the proper footwear, in other words…. court shoes. Court shoes will give better lateral support and better balance for lateral movement on the court. Running shoes just aren’t built for the sport of tennis. Tennis or court shoes are a safer choice as they will give more support to the ankle area which prevents injury!
Students can count on learning progressively when working with me on the court. The first step in becoming a tennis player is accepting the idea that consistency is the first thing you want to master, placement is next on your to-do list while power is the last thing a beginner needs to be concerned about.
After your first lesson you’ll be hooked on the game of tennis! Soon you’ll be learning how to place the ball and how to create pace with your shots. The game will grow on you and you’ll soon be looking for others to hit the ball with.

Client Reviews

Coach Mark is awesome! He teaches the techniques so well and is capable of producing huge improvements in one's game within a very few sessions!

My friend and I began taking lessons with Mark Schneider last summer. We had seven lessons with him and our skillset level skyrocketed dramatically from pure beginners to the level that we are enjoying playing Tennis today. I’ve found Mark focused, dedicated, passionate, reliable. He apparently enjoys teaching Tennis as much as observing students progressing. He diligently pays attention to students play and patiently explains right game techniques. I can confidently recommend him as a solid reliable Tennis instructor and expert.
I have tried 5 different coaches and Mark is the best of the lot. He has very good observational and communication skills, both of which are important for being a good coach. He observed things with my footwork and racket preparation that other coaches simply missed. He explains things patiently and in a very clear manner. He is committed to being a good coach and even came to watch one of my matches and his insights were very helpful. Thanks Mark. . Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Funny, Fun, Good communicator
My son and I both take lessons from Mark. I am a total beginner, and my son is more experienced. Mark has really improved our skills. He really tailors his lesson to the abilities/style of the student. He has given us both so much great advice, and has seriously improved our game. Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Funny, Fun, Good communicator
Quality Teaccher - I loved the tennis class i was in that was taught by mark. i was a beginner to the sport and after the class and his instruction, every aspect of my game was significantly improved. he is able to point out exactly what you are doing wrong and tells you how to correct it. pretty patient considering the number of people who showed up unfashionably late would love to take another class from him. Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Funny, Fun, Good communicator
I was part of the summer quarter class that Mark taught. He is a great teacher when it comes to tennis. We were kind of screwed by the shoreline city workers who spend all quarter cleaning the courts during our classes. I took this same class last year and I learned more this year than last. Mark is a teacher. He wants you to learn the game not just pass the time. I wish that the quarter was longer and that we didn't have to deal with the shoreline city workers but maybe next time. I would recommend him as a teacher or personal trainer to anyone. In fact I plan to use him as a personal trainer myself later this fall. Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Funny, Good communicator
Mark is "the man" when it comes to Tennis! Great instructor! Take him if you want to learn Tennis. He's really really good! Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Patient, Funny, Fun, Good communicator
I went to Mark after recovering from an Achilles tendon surgery and being out of the game for months. I'd been frustrated with my forehand and needed a refresher on the fundamentals of the stroke. Mark vastly helped me with this. I've implemented what he's told me into my stroke and it's improved my swing plenty. I plan on continuing to follow his advice and expect to find myself becoming more and more consistent. Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Good communicator
I'm getting back into playing tennis after a long break, and my lesson with Mark was extremely helpful. He is very patient and really explains things well. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone who is looking for a tennis instructor!
I decided to pick up a racket this summer for the first time, and thought I would benefit from a lesson. I searched Craiglist for an instructor, then happened upon TeachStreet via a Google search. There were plenty instructors out there, and I am SO glad that I chose Mark! Even though I'm sure he's accustomed to teaching more advanced players, he was very patient with me and was able to teach me the basics on the grip, forehand and stance in just the first lesson. His instruction has helped me immensely and I look forward to each of my lessons! His passion for the game is contagious. I only wish that I would've decided to take lessons earlier in the summer when the weather was better. Really, whether your a beginner, intermediate, or advanced player...Mark is the coach you want!! Pros: Helpful, Encouraging, Patient, Fun
I had taken 15 years off from tennis and my game clearly showed it. In the first 30 minutes Mark was able to make dramatic improvements to my game and after the first lesson most of the cobwebs had been shaken off. If you haven't played in a while I suggest you give Mark a call. Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Funny, Fun, Good communicator
A natural pro! Mark is the best instructor I have ever had - he has definitely helped me improve my game. He takes the time to analyze the skills of his student, identifying strengths as well as weaknesses. Then he customizes his instruction to capitalize on the strengths and to turn those weaknesses into assets. He makes this student feel that his objective is the same as mine; i.e., to make me the best player I can be. Every lesson is reinforced with feedback both verbal and written, both constructive and encouraging, as well as with instructional videos. All that, plus, he's a super nice guy and good company! Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Funny, Fun, Good communicator
I'm relatively new to tennis. I was thinking about taking a lesson, but never got around to it and I thought I could teach myself. I was at park playing tennis with a friend. I couldn't seem to hit the ball onto the court and instead was hitting home runs to the fence. On the court next to me, there was a lesson being taught. Out of the blue, the instructor who happened to be Mark, came over to me. He introduced himself and asked me to hold my racket like I was hitting the ball. He quickly pointed out to me that my grip was off a bit and helped me correct it. Next thing you know I'm keeping the ball on the court! I asked Mark for his contact info and soon took a lesson with him, then several more lessons since. He took a minute out of his lesson he was conducting to help me. That was awesome! Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Fun, Good communicator
I was struggling with controlling my two-handed backhand and seeked help with Coach Schneider. After two one hour lessons, I was consistently hitting with a strong two-handed backhand with control and precision. Thaks to Mark, I'm a better player! Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Fun, Good communicator
Mark is amazing at teaching tennis to players of all ages, from beginner to advanced. I've had the pleasure of watching him work for the last 6 years, and have learned a lot about how to bring the best out of my students from watching him. You can't go wrong with Mark Schneider!
Mark has been coaching my son Nick for about 6 months. Mark has an amazing ability to say just the right thing at the right time and provides incredible motivation. Mark is a great technician and is able to put his skills to good use with his strong communication skills. My son greatly respects Mark and is eager to heed his instruction. Pros: Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Good communicator
Whether you have dreams of advancing for serious tennis play or whether you want to improve your skills for the joy of playing, this is the coach! Coach Mark's players succeed at a very competitive level, both on the court and in life. He is a man of integrity who gives constructive criticism, in a positive way. He does not overwhelm his players, but gives appropriate amounts of instruction at the right time. His players respect and like him, as well as enjoy his great sense of humor. He consistently raises players to a winning level of play. Helpful, Engaging, Encouraging, Smart, Patient, Funny, Fun, Good communicator
Get great instruction from a highly qualified coach...Mark has helped develop many quality high school state competitors. He provides a comprehensive and organized plan for skill development to maximize an individual's potential. If you want to be a competitive player this program can work for you.
Mark was my first tennis coach. We started lessons in the summer of 2008 and I am honored to remain a student. I have done lessons with 2 other trainers and neither compares with Mark's professionalism and great results. Mark is very positive in his approach to learning. He has an exceptional understanding and passion for his sport as well as the ability to transfer that knowledge to his students. His lessons are fun filled and creative. Absolutely the choice for anyone new to the sport or seasoned pros looking to improve their game.
Quickly evaluated my needs and potential and had ready suggestions that were quickly implemented. Easy to work with, personal and professional. I look forward to lessons because they are fun. I leave with a sense of accomplishment. He sends me e-mails with videos to followup lessons that are very helpful and motivating. I have had four other good instructors in another city over a four year period. Mark excels.
