More About Coach Lily

Over the course of my college career I have gradually started to get into coaching and have grow to really enjoy watch the kids improve over time. I started out just by working and the ID camps at my college which was a very serious environment because all the kids wanted to do well. Then I started to do individual sessions with young kids around the age of 6-7 years old which was fun because they were just starting to learn the basics. After that I started working camps of that a surf coach was putting on for all the kids he coached individually and on his teams, this gave me a better idea of what working with older kids around 10-12 years old was like and it was a very different experience because I was working with far more capable athletes which was great because I was able to give them harder drills and exercises.

Soccer has been the primary sport I have played my entire life I asked at a very young age. In high school I played Academy/DA for San Diego Surf, during my senior year my team made it to the finals to compete for the national championship. My Freshman and Sophomore year I played high school soccer for Canyon Crest Academy, my sophomore year I was made the Avocado League second team and was voted MVP by my coaches and teammates. I am currently a student athlete at a D1 school in San Diego, prior to that I played D1 in the state of Indiana. After my sophomore year of college I made the decision to transfer and come back to San Diego to be closer to home and I am playing the sport I love at a D1 level while being in sunny San Diego. Since I have been home I have started to do more individual sessions during the summer.

My session plans will depend on what each kid needs to work on and their overall skill level, the first session will be somewhat of an assessment of their overall skill so that I can develop a more individualistic plan for them to help them improve as much as they can during the sessions. However, there will be a core of skill improvement and development. This includes ball movement, passing with and without texture or spin, collection, and vision with the ball. Every session will start with the athlete working on footwork without the ball to help warm them up and get their feet moving. Then we will move into more soccer based movement while still working to get their feet moving faster. There will be a lot of different cone drills and movements to improve their comfort and skill with the ball, this will take up most of the session. At the end there will be more free time for the athlete to pick what they feel, with my input, what they need to work on most. This could be defending/attacking 1v1, long balls or other skills that do not require the ball to be directly at their feet.

Lily is awesome!

Coach Lily had a great session with my daughter. She was patient, positive and taught her new skills. She is very excited and is looking forward to continuing our sessions with Coach Lily. Thank you!

Lily made my son who is on the spectrum for autism feel very comfortable right off the bat. My son can be a tough read and he seemed loose and comfortable. Also notably, I’ve had other coaches in the past for my son and this was by far the most active I’ve seen him. He was really engaged. He had a good time, he felt like she listened to him and he’s eager for his next session. All I could ask for. Lily is awesome.

Orley loves coming to do the workouts with you! She has so much fun.
